So i've read through many posts concerning upgrade swaps and such and i've gotten the information i wanted; however, some things are not clarified.
So.. let's say I order an iPhone online with my # and am eligible for the 199$ discount. When I order, how will it affect my CURRENT plan. Just by ordering the iphone will i be stuck in another 2 year plan or does this happen AFTER I get the iphone and plug it into itunes because i am planning to upgrade swap with someone outside my family plan, but don't want to be stuck in another 2 year plan.

Might anyone care to help 8) and sorry if I have skipped over a post that concerns the same concept of my question... :apple::apple::apple:

When you order the phone for the 199 price YOUR contract will be extended I don't know exactly when.

aww man so you mean even if you order online?
I was hoping this doesnt happen. What would you do if you DONT want to extend your plan but want to give it to someone else and YOU are the one who have the upgrade eligibility ?

When you order online, whatever number you are putting the iPhone 4 on will be the line that upgrades.

The contract will re-up at the time of purchase (or very close thereafter), not at the time of activation.

For instance... I pre-ordered on Tuesday. My info on AT&T now says I can upgrade for another discounted iPhone in mid November 2011.

Nothing except cancel.

To get the $199/$299 price you get the two-year service commitment and that means a contract. Your new contract also has the new terms and the new $325 ETF.

What did you think would happen?

This is the most accurate answer.

alright thanks everyone, I had the idea that nothing happens to your current plan until you go activate it via iTunes Hahhaa, but evidently i was wrong xD

I guess my friend has to wait 6 months before he can upgrade to the iphone for 199$
