I placed our BTO order Dec 12 with an estimated delivery Jan 30 - Feb 7, but decided to change the BTO configuration on Dec 21st 2019. The changes I made were for the most part done correctly except for one item that I'll not mention here. The new estimated delivery was move slightly to Feb 7 - Feb 13, 2020.

We have decided on our upgrades to be made when this MP7,1 arrives, and have all of them ready to be installed.

  • Promise Pegasus J2i upgraded with a 2nd 16TB Seagate Exos HDD.
  • 12x 32GB R-DIMMs from NVTEK.
  • Sonnet/Samsung PCIe card (1x 2TB and 3x 1TB Samsung 970 E VO Plus blades).
  • I used our Voyager S3 to format and load up certain needed applications on the stock J2i's Toshiba 8TB and the Seagate Exos 16TB HDDs.
So we are now ready to get our MP7,1 up and running when it arrives.

I'm not an impatient person, but find myself checking our order to see if the delivery date has changed. It hasn't and has stayed at the Feb 7-13 time frame.

How many others are now waiting for their MP7,1 models to ship/arrive on the doorstep ? :)

Where are you? (Since MP7,1 boxes ship from China or Texas, depending on your postal code.)

We are located some 22 miles north of Seattle in the PNW USA. I'm told the delivery is somewhat delayed as we ordered the wheel option.

Ordered a BTO on 11 december 2019
Estimated delivery still on 3 Feb - 7 Feb (never changed)

I did get 2 phone calls from apple to confirm the order. The first time was from a lady with a heavy asian accent (I had the worst trouble ever to understand how she pronounced "apple" -I was assuming she was trying to scam me till she proved she knew what I had just ordered), second time a male with a heavy Indian or so accent. Both just wanted to confirm the order in the end. Displays have been delivered, MP still waiting. Will teach me for ordering them wheels.

Ours are coming from China as we live in Europe, those assembled in America are only for those in the USA AFAIK.

I was hoping our order that included the wheels would mean the delivery would actually be quicker as the MP7,1 will be or could be wheeled along quicker. ;) ;) ;)

Our order status states "We have everything necessary to complete your order.". So presumably the optional wheels is not holding things up. Maybe I should take a few days off and visit the Austin Apple factory to experience our MP7,1 being built. I wonder if they would allow me in the factory door ? That would constitute an awesome Customer experience for sure. As an aside... I purchased a Volvo XC70 in 2003 and was treated to a factory tour in Gotéberg to see the car being built and personally delivered to me along with 2 weeks of Insurance to enjoy that part of the world driving around in Sweden and Norway - an experience of a life time.

The one positive aspect of waiting for us is that so far since ordering, is that our AAPL stock has been steadily increasing several hundreds of dollars each day on average. So as we intend to pay with our AAPL stock the approximately 60 day delay between our order date and shipping date means the MP7,1's cost will likely be completely covered with some change to spare. 👍

This morning I checked on our MP7,1 order....... and Woweeee, things, delivery and processing status, have changed from Feb 7-13 to "Arrives Jan 30 - Feb 5 by Standard Delivery".

The status history line has changed and begins with "Order Placed...", followed by "We've received your payment information and are preparing your order".

This is a bit confusing because on the same page it also states odd status info for our ordered Promise Pegasus J2i which was received way back on Dec 16, 2019.

The big issue for us is that the Mac Pro that is stated as being delivered to us is the one we canceled and changed to a different model configuration on Dec 19, 2019. The Mac Pro that they now seem to be sending to us is the wrong one, and the one we had placed Dec 12, 2019.

If Apple has messed up with our order change and is now delivering the wrong MP7,1 to us, they will get more than a few four-letter words thrown at them.

We have all the paper work that confirms our change order so hopefully this will get resolved.

We will be calling Apple today to get some clarification on what on earth is going on.

What do others here recommend we do to stop this infuriating order mess-up from unfolding and getting worse for us ?

Ordered (12-core/32GB/1TB/580) January 16, 2020 with delivery January 28-30, 2020.

I am located in Ottawa Ontario Canada.

Most likely, the wheels thing is a minor corner case. In general, if really want a Mac pro quickly then don't order Apple wheels.

After the first couple of days it was relatively obvious that none of the other BTO options had much impact on extended time. The wheels has remained the only major substantive time changer for the Mac Pro itself.

Frankly, getting a Rack system (and stuffing it into a rack cart with wheels ) is faster than Apple's option. That wasn't obvious from the outset but it is true now. But it was true from the outset for anybody who had a cart that could accommodate a vertical standing tower (the previous tower Mac Pro wasn't rack friendly either so there were already solutions out there deployed. )

I called Apple Business line 1-877-377-6362 about this issue and was told after being pushed through four different people that their ordering system was undergoing maintenance/updating and this was causing the issue I was seeing for our Order Status.

Apple confirmed that this has been an ongoing issue for them as this maintenance/updating activity to their ordering system should not be conducted during Customer/Business hours as it has, in the past, caused this sort of situation resulting in angry customers calling in asking what the heck is happening to their order status.

Apple apologized to me and politely asked me to check our order status again at end of today.

I asked them what they were seeing as our Order status and what they conveyed was correct. I asked for them to send me an e-mail that showed and confirmed our Order Status was indeed correct. Their e-mail was received and I confirmed its correctness, and filed it away in our records in case we had to use it if ever we had to dispute any further issues with our order - and especially if we received the wrong MP7,1 configuration.

So, we shall now be patient and check our Order Status at end of today, and hopefully it will be correct.

I'm waiting due to the wheels, but now I am also curious about the 5700.

I wonder how much difference the wait for "coming soon" (5700) vs. "late but no comment" (wheels) is? Seems Apple often thinks "coming soon" means "maybe 6 months from now."

Thank God, my 7,1 (16c, 384 GB, 2 TB, Vega II) arrived today. It’s more than I deserve. I hope to make good use of it for many years.
Let's hope Apple releases the Vega IIs or the new Radeon RX 5700 as buy options as soon as possible... I need the thunderbolt ports!

You can actually buy the Vega IIs in the store:

Or what do you mean?

BTW in the US Apple store the 7,1 takes only 5-7 business days to deliver now...

Yes the turnaround time from Texas is extremely fast, this is the second machine I’m ordering. I ordered on the 17th it should be here tomorrow. Knock on wood.

Just received a message from Apple..
XDR arrival date moved from February 10-27 to Jan 26, 2020.
That's a nice improvement.

$8 for a 2 hr confirmed delivery window is ok IMO...
Um, I wouldn’t get too excited about that. I researched paying for the narrower delivery window when I was waiting for my own Mac Pro 2019 delivery. What I found was not encouraging.

First it isn’t a guarantee. It’s up to the discretion of the driver. Second, in order to fulfill the request, the driver typically has to break route. That can tick off the driver. Considering the abuse we’ve seen systems receive (reported by people and on captured video), I didn’t want to give the driver any excuse to mishandle my delivery, so I patiently waited through the regular delivery window.

YMMV. Keep a close eye on the delivery and try to spot the person doing it to see how they’re delivering the package.

(By the way, the guy delivering mine did a Hercules and CARRIED IT all the way down our narrow one-way side street! I thanked him for the care of my package! He was quite professional and friendly about it. So they do exist!)

I’m certainly not excited, and I have multiple cameras facing the street, in case I get to shame the UPS driver, I also have video of the last guy leaving it without a signature in my driveway
