I just restored my iPhone 3G and updated. I was running a jailbroken 3.1.2 and upgraded to 3.1.3. I restored and then updated obviously.

While my phone was jailbroken, I downloaded Cydia apps that let me change the AT&T logo by the service bars and another to give me a percentage by the battery.

All of my Cydia apps are gone, yet I still have a changed AT&T logo (it says my name now) and my percentage bar is still there.

Why didn't these get deleted?

did you restore from back up andnot as a new phone?

I restored from a back up so all of my apps and such would be easily obtainable. But from my understanding, if you restore, the jailbreak is automatically deleted along with any apps you may have downloaded, yet these things are not.

set it up as a new phone then sync apps or as someone else suggested reset all data
as you have seen residual contant can still linger

What will the erase all settings and content do? (Ok the name of it kind of answers my own question, but would I have to re-sync everything?)

Nope, your understanding is off.
Once you restore from backup some of your JB stuff will be carried over from your previous backup when you were jailbroken.
Like battery percent, carrier logo and other changes you might have made to the layout of the graphics etc...
The only way for those things not to carry over is not to restore from backup and setup as new phone.

did you...

settings > general > reset > erase all content and settings?

That will not make any difference at all.
The minute he restores his phone from backup those things will carry over from his backup.

I had the same problem, this will reset it back to the AT&T logo.

Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings

I have done everything mentioned in this thread (including re-restoring and setting up as a new phone) and I STILL don't have a carrier logo...what gives?

A carrier logo?
Are you restoring to a custom IPSW preserving an unlocked baseband?
If yes in order to use ultrasnow on a different firmware built then thats a well known bug.

I'm on AT&T so I don't use ultrasnow. I did restore with a custom IPSW because I have a 3GS and I'm on Windows (no redsn0w for 4.0 3GS yet and no PwngeTool for Windows).

It sounds like you know what's going on but I don't think I'm quite understanding yet...

Yes, that makes sense then.
You're probably on baseband 04.26.08
Go to settings/general/about and let me know what version is your modem firmware.

Yes, thats a well known bug when the baseband doesnt match the firmware version.
Mine is the same way without the AT&T logo :D

Ahhhh that bothers me! Since I don't need my phone unlocked, lets say redsn0w gets updated to allow 3GS 4.0 jailbreaks at some point (which I'm sure it will). Could I restore to a clean 4.0 (which I assume would update my baseband) then jailbreak and get my logo back?

Yes, once a new release of redsnow is out you could restore to official 4.0 and then rejailbreak.
Or you can go to cydia and install carrier logo fixer right now :D
Not 100% sure it works on 4.0 but I dont see why it wouldnt.

I think I tried that and it didn't work but let me check again.

Didn't work :( Hopefully it will be updated to work with 4.0 as that would be a lot easier and a lot less time consuming than redoing everything again (which would be my third time for 4.0  )

Oh, I see.
At least we tried.
I also heard installing ultrasnow might fix this issue also. Not sure if you feel like trying that too :D
You'll have to manually add the repo repo666.ultrasn0w.com on Cydia
