Many people have snickered at Apple using the name ThunderBolt for its implementation of Light Peak on the new MBP 13", at the German one anyway. If the name LightPeak can't be used, what would you nickname the new port?

I don't hate the name per se, I hate the fact that it sounds campy. I also don't like the name Light Peak fwiw. Then again, I thought firewire was stupid too. /shrug. I have no alternatives and therefore, I accept it and that is that.

when i read "ThunderBolt", i automatically think.....

images

"Thunder, Thunder, Thunder, Thundercats...HOOOOO!!! "

"The Fast One"

or when I'd want to transfer really big files,

"Thunder...thunder...thunderbolt! Hooooo!!!!!"

But seriously, they could have come up with a better name...

Edit: ^ Ahh!!! Beat me to it!!!

Thunderbolt is a bad name. I wonder who things of these things. If anything it should be lightning bolt.

I just think the name is too long. I can't imagine ever saying "plug in the thunderbolt drive".

"when you peak you win"

funny how i keep reading people say...b-b-but light is faster than sound.

...thunder BOLT. BOLT OF LIGHTNING + THUNDER = THUNDERBOLT.

I love it. Better than Light Peak or Fire Wire :D

A thunderbolt is neither sound nor light. It's electricity. The speed of electicity is either 97%-98% of the speed of light (eg fast) or 66% of light depending on what method you are using... If you go through copper. The actual speed of a lightning bolt is about 140k mph or 220k kph. That is to say, fast, but not close to the speed of light.

It doesn't rub me one way or another to be honest.

Seems a little un-apple like in some ways but to be honest, I'm not sure what else they could have called it.

It is a beer.

Intel might get a lawsuit :D

If anything HTC will sue them over the taking of the name of one of their high profile smartphones... And the case will drag on for years and end in a settlement that's 1/10 the cost of the legal battle itself! Yay corporate america!
