So you've waited in line for hours and hours (days and days), trampled some poor mother trying to buy a mac mini to get to the first iPhone you see, bought the sucker with your rent money, brought it home while making sure every soul you see knows you have one, bathed yourself in distilled water, set up the unboxing shrine, unboxed the phone to 2001: A Space Odyssey, and activated it all while screaming like a little girl...

Now what on earth are ya gonna do?

i'm not going to treat it like it's the holy grail; i'm going to use it. i'll keep it in my pocket without a case or screen protector or whatever. and i hope it'll be really amazing.

ROTFL!!!!!!!!!!! :D Freaking great writing, and I have seriously thought about post-iPhone guilt because there are other things I can do with $600, like visit my grandmother.

It is after all a 'gadget' that in no time, like the Razr, will transform from a novelty of the privileged to a gadget for the common. I recall buying the Razr for $500 and feeling great. I'd just gotten a new job, and it was my personal symbol of success. Then some months later, I saw a lady with a very menial position with...a Razr. The price dropped drastically and the symbolism crashed.

But that said, I'll feel good overall. Gadgets bring me joy and keep me from cursing out/choking the people I work with. I can look at the iPhone and say to myself, "Stay calm. This job allows you to have this." It's therapeutic. :p

Personally, I'm going to open it to the tune of the Ride of the Valkyries (from "Apocalypse Now").

You know: "Da da da da da, da da da da da, da da da DA da, da da da da!"

EDIT I'm paying my little brother $5 to come with me and wait in line; he's going to be my photographer. My good friend is currently in China, and he wanted pictures and everything the moment I got it (he's almost as excited as I am). I'll probably upload the pictures to iPhoto, then to the iPhone, and then e-mail him the pictures from my iPhone.

That phrase sounds so nice. MY iPhone. It has a nice ring to it, no?

Honestly?... show it off to everybody that I come in contact with, and wherever I can use it in public.

Probably at work... coffee shop... bus... etc :)

Lucky you. My intern offered to stand in line, but I'd feel like a corrupt politician doing that.
