Since we're playing casting agent, I think you have to give Ralph Fiennes a solid look. Check out some pics via Google, especially recent ones where he's sporting close-cropped, balding hair. Note the nose, eye/brow area, chin/jawline, etc.

With the right stubble, glasses, etc., it could work.

And I hate to say it (because I'm not a fan of the guy), but look at Bradley Cooper. Again, focus solely on the prominent facial features/shapes (nose, eyes, jaw/chin, mouth, etc.). A bit of hair and makeup work could probably get him pretty close to the look because, facially, he's quite close in some key areas.

The idea is to get someone close enough in those key areas (jaw/chin, mouth, nose) so that you don't have to use a bunch of fake-looking, obvious prosthetics.

The man's life is so complex, the company is so complex, that no 3 hour movie is going to hit all the notes. Things will be cut, tweaked etc.

If someone really wants to do something how about a docu mini series. Or even two of them. One about Steve up to the great return, one about Apple after it. They could do it in two 12 part limited series on say the Biography Channel.

I could see this as a Steve Jobs Trilogy, ala The Lord of The Rings. A lot went on in those books and PJ successfully fit it into the 3 films. Or, I could at least see a two part Steve Jobs Epic. Pt. 1 1st Apple era and Pt.2 Pixar/NeXt era to 2nd Apple era.

They can do this. I just hope the movie encompasses his life and not just pooints at Apple. I want to see some Pixar and NeXt era stuff on the screen.

Think about Ashton Kutcher what you want... but he was the one who really was the perfect lookalike of Steve Jobs. No one will ever come that close...

Hate to burst your bubble.

"Aaron Sorkin’s Steve Jobs Movie To Feature Just 3 Scenes In Real-Time Backstage At Product Launches"

I actually rather agree with you. I don't feel like Steve is a movie worthy subject. Jobs actually proved that to me in many ways.

I would much rather see that and see Fincher actually make good on his talk to do the whole Girl trilogy and not just the first movie.

He likely won't. That tone is possibly why they are telling the story the way they are. Avoid any situations where such rapid fire talk would seem odd. Board rooms, brainstorming conferences etc all fit with that sort of tone.

But movie =/= biography.

Just because it's a movie involving a real life figure, doesn't mean it has to be a biopic that details all or most of his life and career. And that's what will make this film more interesting, that it's taking a different direction.

I have said many times that Tom Cruise is a great choice for the role. He has similar impassioned mannerisms (the smile...) and a sharp speaking style that would fit well with Steve.

If you've seen the way that Tom looked in 'Collateral' with the scruffy beard, you can better start to envision how he'd look as Jobs:

Aside from all that, it would lend the necessary star power to the film to make people flock in droves.

I really don't like the idea of a STAR potentially overshadowing the actual MAN; but otherwise, Cruise would be a great fit, in even more ways than you mention.

Agree 100%. I'm looking for a great movie that captures the essence of the man; not some record of everything he's done. The former is always welcome; the later completely unnecessary.

I once saw a zucchini that looked like Richard Nixon. Who cares?

This is true. I loved the movie "The Fighter," but many fans were really upset that a movie about Micky Ward didn't go on to tell about the Ward/Gatti trilogy of fights. But like you said, it was a movie, not a biopic.

I'll wait for it to come out before I judge, but I would think the story of Jobs (and his influence on the world) would be hard to capture in the confines of three keynotes, unless they will intersperse flashbacks into the mix.

So what? Looking like someone means you look like them. Doesn't mean you have talent etc.

And generally speaking a talented actor that looks kind of like the person is better than a talentless one that happens to be a great visual match

90 minutes of 'backstage' from three launches hardly tells anyone anything about the essence of the man. Just the essence of the man during those three events.

Completely and utterly agree! He has the same stare too. Perfect choice.

I admit the Cooper one is a stretch, :p but Fiennes is a lot closer than others listed here. I mocked up a Fiennes pic a while back on another site/thread about this same subject. It was pretty damn close once the hair, stubble, turtleneck and glasses were in place.

If not Ralph, then perhaps his brother Joseph.

BTW, I'm talking about older, iEra Jobs because that's the one I'm most familiar with.

John Hawkes

In other forum posts on this topic, I never see John Hawkes mentioned. IMO he has the perfect mix of stature as an actor (not TOO famous to overshadow the film but still recognizable by many), the piercing gaze, and the height/body-type to really pull off a convincing Jobs.
