Hi there,

I know its a bit of a long-shot, but everyones been extremely helpful so far so I guess it is worth a try.

Me and a friend are setting up a website, similar to "myspace" or "unsigned" or even "facebook". It is predominently aimed at musicians and will help them build a fanbase and connect with other bands. We are both 19 and know very little (nothing) about website design and building. We already have some good backing and would therefore like to make the site as high quality as possible. We only have one problem... We have absolutely NO idea who to go to, to get a site made! Of course, we'd like to be able to do it ourselves with an application but googling and asking around isn't coming up with anything so we have conceded we will have to use some of our budget to get a site made.

So any pointers? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers
Kenny

I don't know where you'd go, but if you really want to create something nice standard web-building applications aren't going to get you anywhere. You're definitely going to have to hire someone, and hopefully your backing is very good because it will probably be expensive.

google around for a social networking cms (content management system), or just a cms.

Drupal

Check out Drupal.com It may be exactly what you are looking for. The learning curve is quite steep, but if you have someone with a little bit of know how you can get a social media site up and running in no time.

If you really need someone to help you out designing, building, and marketing a site like that check us out at Pixel Shavings.

We are experts in website creation and social site execution.

Your site is finished: www.purevolume.com ;)

If you are serious about this hire someone to start it for you. Without design or programming experience there is NO WAY you can compete with PureVolume or MySpace.

Meanwhile, you can learn to code and then you can add features yourself in addition to that you hired. Don't be afraid to invest a few thousand in it.
