I just got a macbook (big mistake), and one of my hobbies is designing web pages, applications, etc... So I install the usual, mysql, edit the editable, /etc/httpd/httpd.conf, install the necessary, navicat and macromedia, etc... the basic stuff.
After importing tables and all to mysql, I try to cranck up a little sample page on dreamweaver (just to make sure, right??) but ohh surprise !!!! something that had never happened to me before a "cute" little mysql error which states:
    MySQL Error#: 2002
Can't connect to local MySQL server though socket '/var/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)
So... I'm thinking no problem that's why there are manuals, silly me, I go to the MySQL reference manuals where it say something about problems connecting though the "local" socket, well dhuu...
    How do I solve it?
Well it appears that no one is entirely sure on how to fix this, they'll tell you things like have you checked this, or have you seen that, but supposing I have done all that checksum, does anyone out there have an insight as to how I might "fix" this. Is there a file or something that I need to edit and upon editing it what do I write/uncomment. Please I'm just about to loose it.
Here is a list of files that I have checked, edited and versions of software etc.. hope it helps you help me.
Apache server, edited the httpd.conf and uncommented the php4 module etc..
    MySQL version 5.0
    DreamWeaver 8
And that's about it or that I can think of right now.
Any feedback is much appreciated. Thank You

    Socket To Me

I am having the very same problem. I have run older G5's with 10.1, 10.2 and 10.3 and initiated PHP and installed MySQL on all of them with no problems. We just got in the new quad-core 64 Bit G5 workhorses running 10.4.9 and we have had a nightmare with MySQL. It is there, it is running but to get phpmyadmin or dreamweaver to acknowledge is a different story. The same 2002 Error with the sockets. I have found no one with Mac or MySQL experience to help me anywhere. If anyone knows what to do please send me your assistance. I am pretty sure I will have to get back on the Terminal again to do something, if so please break that down, just a high end graphic designer here.

    Thanks!
