What purpose do they serve?
For example, if your runners (ie: my New Balance) are dirty and I don't wash them, my white socks become dark brown after I wear my shoes for 1 hour. After that, I may as well stick my foot in the shoe directly.
Only time I can see socks serving a purpose is when you're wearing black formal shoes, which always seem to be slippery and uncomfortable inside.
My friend doesn't wear socks with some of his shoes. Well, not always. There are some shoes he's perfectly happy wearing without socks. I know his sock-habit probably doesn't have anything to do with him being gay, but......yes, I think it's because he's gay.
I think I'll stick with socks just to conform, but sometimes I can totally see socks being a bit unnecessary.
(it's a pointless thread, but I've been sitting at my office at uni and this is what happens when I need to learn how to program simulations)
