Apparently Apple thinks it's more important to add features for a single market than add something EVERY MARKET can use (and that people have been clamoring for since LAST YEAR) ... Pure genius.

Yeah, you're pretty dumb. This OneSeg receiver is being developed by Softbank, not Apple, and the emoji would take like 1 graphic designer a couple of days maybe?

People really don't understand the scale of how huge this emoji thing is.

SMS in Japan is only for people with the same carrier as you. Push email is the main means of text communication.
There are three main cell carriers in Japan.
People put emoji in almost every mail they send.
If you put emoji in a mail from one carrier to the iphone, you get corrupted characters. Meaning that you can't get mails from 1/3 of the people with cell phones.
Softbank just promised that you'll be able to send and recieve emoji (mails in general) to all carriers with no character corruption.
That's gonna be really huge for bringing in new people to buy the iphone. Imagine if you're in the US and couldn't sms verizon people, just because... That's sorta the situation over here now.

One more ancedotal story. Now when I tell friends about my phone, the number one thing I say is, "I'm gonna be able to use emoji again too soon..."

i could care less about the emoticons so don't mind that being japan specific. but the tv thing looks cool.

Not this again...

Please, Americans, think about what you say. "I could care less" means you do care. "I couldn't care less" means you don't.

Anyway, I think it's disappointing that the emoji will be Japan-specific as I see no reason why they couldn't be used outside Japan. After all, they are simply emoticons which would be nice to have available in the iPhone, since all the work to implement them has been done.

japan just copies American inventions and make it better.:p

Will the update let anyone use the emoji icons? Or do we just have to add the Japanese language to our phone and we can use it or is the update only going to the people in japan?

Yeah and apple had to approve it first including their app

Didn't mean to double post I thought there was auto merge

That still doesn't mean it's stopping Apple from developing other features for the next firmware update. The iPhone team would be fairly huge now.

american phone service are always behind.. the UK and Asia are always really advanced and ahead of the game. I dont know why US services dont step up to the newer technologies, and im not saying 3G sucks here in US theres more things we could do.
