name one? This is just not done in the business world anymore and most certainly not in the extremely fast-pace tech business.

Sorry, are you saying lifetime licenses aren't a thing any more? (Of course they are.)

As for Apple in particular, I'm guessing the perpetual license is a side effect of them being a former founding company back when ARM was a joint venture.

Yea, when you have a company which is the only one for it's products like Apple, someone comes alone because they just wanna see you have something 'unique', s wanna expand it.

Its almost like saying "you don't have anything special. Oh wait....let me take another look.."

Not really. 70% of PCs ship with integrated graphics. The 30% that do ship with GPUs include things like the Radeon R5 430 2 GB that Dell ships in business desktops, which is pretty much the same as integrated graphics.

Between 1/3-1/2 of GPU shipments are in console. When you factor that in, AMD ships more GPUs than Nvidia.

The impression you get that Nvidia is huge comes from PC gaming, which actually isn't the whole story and is really a niche market.
Most PCs shipped are just as unimportant as chrome books and stripped down, true. But unit sold is not the thing that is the most important. I am sure Apple is not the company that ships the most phones in the world, but they always manage to get half the profit of the entire market. Nvidia is so big a player in PC that it is capable of forcing OEMs to buy their low end graphics in order to get high end cards.
