I think I finally understand why it's so hard to throw these things away. Software is so...intangible...that the box reassures us we own something. Why else would a software box be two inches thick and only contain a CD and a registration card.

I'm the guy who keeps every box....hardware and software....

Everything from my first iPod, to tiger, to all the music software (reason and recycle are ridiculously big boxes)

I think a better question is "why are software boxes so huge!!" what a waste, I see that Apple has made their new software in smaller jewel case size boxes, which is great.

Speaking of Recycle, the stupid app asks me to insert the CD, and enter a SN everytime I open it after a reboot...that's one reason why I kept that big clunky box on my shelf..I've since figured out how to just make a mountable DMG out of it, and paste my SN to a sticky, but what a pain.

I keep my iSight box on display cuz it's cool looking...but I think I need to clean house soon..

I voted "keep it" but I'm not so sure now. After reading this thread - why should I keep it? Windows XP OEM doesn't even have a box. I need more space so throwing all my software in DVD boxes would be more beneficial (for some reason DVD cases look classier than jewels.

I throw everything away. Haha. I don't care how nice or pretty apple or anyone makes their boxes. They take up pointless space. The only reason I still have my macbook pro box is because I still have to do the rebate :)

haha, ok ok I just started scanning and assembling leaflets for my software. Scanning boxes and putting the scans on the covers. I got just under half done so I should have the rest done tomorrow. Then I'll take pictars. It's quite a feat I must say, freed up half of my bookshelf. CS is still in the box and will be until I decide where to put the manuals....

I always save mine. For one thing think of how hard someone must have worked on it and how nice it looks, for the other thing what if you decided to sell that software someday? It would be more valuable with the box included.

That was my thinking originally...and then I thought when am I ever going to sell Mac software. When it's out of date, and who wants old software anyway?
