When I download software it ends up on my desktop. When I try to put it in the applications folder of the hard drive, I just get an alias. Is there a way to change the location of the download instead of the desktop? Thanks

You may want to read our guide for installing software: Installing Applications in Mac OS X.

Also, you can change the default location for downloads in Safari > Preferences.
