Hi folks...

Is it possible to use your mac for faxing if:

a) I do not use internal modem and have no landline (cellphone only)
b) cable modem does not specifically state it is fax-capable?

I tried doing this through the "fax" option of the print dialogue box, but only the internal modem came up as an option. Not surprisingly it found no dial tone.

Any third party apps capable of this, or does it strictly require a fax-capable modem?

Thanks
-Mike

I believe there are 3rd party solutions (web-based) to which you forward something that they'll fax. However, since, of course, faxing presumes you can't just send a file and that you are talking to a fax machine at the other end, you have to get to a dial tone eventually, either through your (phone line) modem (not the cable modem) or via the third party site.

That said, you might very well be able to use your cellphone as a modem.

I'm sure others can post with 3rd party sites for faxing. Just wanted to let you know you have to use someone's service if you need to actually dial a fax machine.
