a friend of mine is upgrading his mac and will be selling it shortly. the shame part is he has a load of software already loaded which he isn't really going to recoup what he has invested and was trying to figure if theres a way that i can load the software into my imac most of it is boxed software and a few app store dl's.

The app store downloads can be used by you if your friend is willing to make your computer one of his "authorized" machines. My wife and I share apps this way all the time (and it's legal/legit).

For the boxed software, why can't you just install it on your machine (and delete it from his)?
