Hi. I have two photos and would like to merge them into a single photo to use as my desktop background (side-by-side). I am running OSX 10.6.6. Are there any good built-in programs for these types of purposes or must I purchase some other software to accomplish this? If so, what would you recommend? Thanks!

No need to buy something for this kind of editing. Download Acorn and use it for FREE or buy if you need the extras later. This app is much faster to open and I think much eaiser to use that Gimp. I use Pixelmator for most of my edits but it is not free.
