Software Unlocked iPhone 3Gs upgrade to 4.0.0 from 3.1.2

Hi Guys-

I have an Unlocked (Ultrasnow) iPhone 3Gs with 3.1.2 and I want to upgrade the software to 4.0.0/1/2. How can I do this without having to format all hard drive all over again, you know, downloading ipsw and do the pwnage tool and having to wait and download your data from your computer to your newly formatted iphone. Is there anyway that we can bypass that formatting stage?

You're saying there's no other way to do it?

Having to do pwnage all over is a pain and long.

OK, I tried that but i got error 1600 (iphone could not be restored). I used 4.0.0 and pwnage 4.01. What can I do to be able to use iOS on iphone 3gs? is it even possible to use jailbroken iOS on iPhone 3Gs?

I'm also new to iphone (just got a 3gs last week). Restore and update my phone to 4.0.1 using this site, hope this helps.
