I got my watch today and want to update the OS to 1.0.1. But when I open the Apple Watch app on my phone and go to Software Update, it says "checking for software" and pretty much does nothing. As far as I know this is the only way to update Watch OS, so I would appreciate anybody who knows what's behind it and how to fix it.

I have no data to back this up but here's my theory. Apples servers are under heavy load from all the people restoring because they can't get messages to work after the texting bug. I know 2 people who had to restore today. Their phones were simply unfixable :(. Restore took care of them though. Basically just give it a day or even a few hours and try again.

Sounds like it could be a thing. I had seen people on here mentioning stuff about heart rates being off. When I had just gotten off the couch after being dog tired and checked it, the watch said 140 bpm. Uh, nope. That may have been right when I was outside dragging limbs and stuff, but not standing in the darn house with one eye in dreamland!

Did you try to restart both the phone and watch?

Restarted the phone. Not even sure how to restart the watch yet. I'll give that a try though.

EDIT: Restarted the watch and it's downloading the update now. Thanks!

Also, ensure that the Apple watch is plugged into its charger and has at least 50% battery life when updating the software.
