Software update prompt comes up right at startup

When I turn on my macbook, right when the desktop loads, the software update screen comes up and it says it can't connect to the internet. My internet connection is fine, and it tells me to do network diagnostics. I have downloaded all of the software updates. How can I fix this?

Are you saying you can get online with Safari but Software Update can't? Maybe run it again after the machine has been awake for a while.
