Software update to connect iPhone to Mac failing

I'm getting the following messages when I connect my iPhone to my MBP. Both devices running the latest software.

What is this update and what could be causing it to fail please?

"A Software update is required to connect to ******'s iPhone.

Would you like to download and install this update now?"

But when I click install, I get the following message:

"Installation failed.

Cannot install the software as it is not currently available from the software update server."
