Having just purchased the SE I have the automatic software update set to off but it still shows the “watch will update later tonight” message. I can off course just tap dismiss but will it attempt to update when I put it on the charger? My series 3 never had this issue.

For in the future when the watch gets older. My series 3 was a pain to update when it got older. I’d rather have a choice to update or not.

Night and day re 3 vs SE. 3 was 4(?)GB of storage, SE has 32GB. Updates are pain free on those, no having to wipe/reset to get update to fit on device.

I have auto update turned off. My AW S7 is still running watchOS 8.1. Each time I remove it from the charger I get a notification that watchOS 8.xx is available. I just swipe left and delete the notification. I’ve never seen the “watch will update later to night” message. When do you see this?

For the idly curious… I ALWAYS wait several days/weeks after Apple releases an OS update. And if during that time, issue(s) with the update show up online - I wait for the next update — rinse and repeat. FWIW I may update to watchOS 8.4.2 soon, since the online posts about the charging issue(s) have finally died down.
