Software update trouble

It does this from time to time. Just quit the software update, restart your machine and try again; anything that has been downloaded will still be there and not need downloading again. If you can't quit the software update then Force Quit it using the (Apple+Alt+Esc) key all at once, then choose software update from the dialogue box that comes up (then restart and try again)

Sounds like it just hung up. Yes, once in a purple polka-dotted green moon (even rarer than a silver moon which is even rarer than a blue moon ;) :D ) OS X and other Apple software can crash too...

Attempt to force quit first (right-click on the Software Update and click force quit or use cmd-opt-escape). If that doesn't work and only if that doesn't work do a force shutdown.

The reason for this is that if Software Update hung on a system file and you force shutdown, it could cause serious problems.

If nothing works still, do a clean install as it's a new system anyways.

edit: guess I was a little late
