Hi, i just bought a MBP 2.53ghz version. The first thing i did was, software update. After clicking it "install items" i get the spinning beach ball for about 2hours already. Also i can't open apps, as in when i click on the icon, it just bounce and nothing happen. Please advise me on what to do and whether this is normal  Btw, havent install snow leopard yet. the version that is installing now is 10.5.8 and also other apps.

Have you rebooted? There could have been a hiccup in your internet connection or with the install. Reboot and try again, if all else fails then boot from your restore discs.

Hi Jess, Thanks for your quick reply! i reboot it by holding the power button because it refuse to restart or shut down. Now installing and updates. This is my first mac.. not a really good exp at all.

desmond, take it slowly. It hasn't been a good experience so far, because you are unfamiliar with how OSX works. Are you used to Windows? If so, throw all that knowledge out. Don't expect a Mac to do everything the same way your old "PC" did. The steps to get from point A to point B are not the same. Make a note of what works, and build on it. You might want to get a basic Mac manual, perhaps one of the "Dummies" books. That will give you the foundation for a positive experience. You will learn how the Mac thinks, and then you will start to think like a Mac. You cannot successfully use OSX if you are still thinking Windows.

It sounds like you were doing a "mass install" of several things at once from Software Update. If so, don't do that next time! Download 1 or 2 things at a time. Don't stress your internet connection.

guess i was a little impatient, haha. Well got everything working now and i'm starting to like it. Thanks for the suggestion gregg! really have to put my windows knowledge aside, lol.
