hi I've got an imac os x 2.8 GHZ intel 2 core DUO version 10.5.8 is it possible to load the new app icon and if so how?

i am confused by your question. Are you wanting just the icon for the application(s)? If so, there are several methods, such as CandyBar.

If you are looking for the programs, why not upgrade to SL?

I presume you mean the app store icon. You need to upgrade to Snow Leopard in order to use it. App store needs 10.6.6 (IIRC).
