I found myself at sun.com reading these words:

"Solaris 10 - the most advanced UNIX operating system"
-and-
"The new Solaris 10 operating system integrates so many innovative and valuable capabilities, it's in a class by itself - and it's free."

My question is: Is there any benefit for myself, average user joe, to use Solaris? What could I do with it?

Not unless you need an enterprise-class Unix server. It's really not a great desktop, unless you are an admin or developer for Sun/Solaris systems. Sun is not a consumer oriented company, at all.
