The fact that he made the payment as a GIFT should tell you to stay away. PayPal will do nothing for someone getting ripped off via a GIFT payment. I know from experience.

Not true. I've done Paypal gift with no issues on eBay. This one is a rare exception from my experience.

From my experience most people who pay with one address and ask for it to be shipped overseas is trouble....

I personally would cancel it and relist!

A wise decision ;)

Only thing I ever got stung with on eBay/Paypal was a Nokia mobile phone (some years ago now). Sent to a different address to Paypal (which wasn't verified either) and even through it was tracked by FedEx ended up with a chargeback and a 6 month dispute with Paypal.

Only lost about £200 but it was a hard lesson learned. Think eBay/Paypal is much safer now if you stick to the basic rules - only deal with verified users and only post to their verified Paypal account, using a tracked service for anything of value.

FYI. I buy a lot on eBay and ship to a different address all the time. Never had an issue as a buyer and no one has ever questioned me as buyer.

Than again I am a confirmed address eBay buyer. I have had an account for 10 plus years and 100 plus positive remarks.

I live in Florida and buy things for both my mother and brother (even cell phones) and have the seller ship to Maryland where they live.

Have had zero issues.

I guess it's cause I have a long history, 100% positive feedback and already confirmed addressed that sellers trust me?

I wouldn't risk it.
Sell only to US people and ship only to confirmed address with insurance and signature confirmation.

I agree I have sold alot of high end items on ebay from iphones to jewerly and this is the key. Spend the money up front to protect yourself later....

Thanks everyone. I wasn't confident when the eBay account had a Vietnamese name attached to it. And an American name attached to the Paypal account. It just seemed strange. Also in regards to Paypal gift, yes he can do a chargeback if he paid with a credit card. If he paid with a balance then he would be SOL. And if his account is overseas, his shipping address will not be confirmed from what I've seen and read. You would still be seller eligible if he/she is verified. I just hope he doesn't give me negative feedback as a result of the refund/cancellation. Also forgot to add if it's Paypal gift then there is no shipping address. He sent a message to ship to Vietnam.

Would you rather have negative feedback or lose the price of an iPhone 5??? Don't send it anywhere, cancel the transaction.

Sold many things on eBay over the years and I can tell you that you are going to get screwed by PayPal not too long after you ship the phone out.

Cancel that transaction at all cost.

You can go into your eBay settings & select that only people with a lot of feedback can bid on your item

Thats totally suspect. Another reason why I never mess with eBay.

I need some advice. The buyer paid already with Paypal gift. He paid with a credit card. Now some things I'm worrying about is that the names do not match up. I'm sending it to someone in Asia but the Paypal payment was made by a different person. And he paid as Paypal gift. I'm worrying about a possible charge back. What should I do? I'm thinking about refunding him. He sent several messages to send it out already. Plus the eBay account has 1 feedback. Any advice is much appreciated.

If you ship to any other address than the PayPal address, you are risking loosing everything. This is one of the oldest eBay scams. Call eBay and they will tell you NO!

eBay is very safe and after over 675 sales and purchases, I have never had a problem but YOU MUST FOLLOW THE RULES!

This person is asking for it.

There are filters but none that require "alot of feedback" to bid.

Exactly.
Cover your butt, ship only to confirmed paypal address and ship with insurance and signature confirmation in case the package gets lost in the mail. Trust me, a while ago I had that happen.
I lost the merchandize cause it never got delivered and had to refund the buyer cause his item never arrived.
Wish I would have spend the extra $5 on insurance than to lose a $400 item and not get anything back besides the $6 shipping cost.

I don't use eBay anymore due to the high percentage they take (eBay + PP). I prefer to use Craigslist, meet at the mall, and do transactions in person. I do buy some stuff from eBay if I can't find it anywhere else (like an old iPhone 2G I bought this week).

However, I don't see anywhere in the OP anything about shipping to a non-PP address. Just that the names differ - not addresses. It is typical for people in Asia to have English based names for when they deal with English speaking people. Based on the OP, this is what I assume since he doesn't say the address is different.

Can you tell me where that setting is located?
The only thing I could find is block people from outside the US and people with no feedback.
Let me know when you get a chance cause the ebay settings are complicated.

To select buyer requirements for all your listings:
1.
Go to My eBay.

2.
Click the Account tab, and then click Site preferences on the left.

3.
In the Selling preferences section, scroll to Buyer requirements, and click Show.

4.
Click Edit.

5.
On the Buyer requirements page, select your requirements.

6.
Click Submit to save your requirements

First and last name? Plus he didn't deny or say anything about the name discrepancies. He ignored my questions and just told me to ship with the Paypal name. I had no idea what the Paypal address was because he paid by Paypal gift plus he was unverified. All he gave me was a Vietnamese name plus an address in Vietnam. Not to mention he replied right away to my messages to ship right away. He actually sent 10 messges to ship right away.

I got hit with chargeback befode. Paypal mediation system is useless and you will lose out in the end...

I even take pictures to show the item in the box just before I close the box up for shipment. All of this and great feedback goes a long way when something is disputed. Most get in trouble on eBay because they do not follow the rules and get greedy for a deal that is too good to be true!

That's why I only ship high $ items via Fedex. Signature, and declared value insurance all figured in to the cost which is always less that USPS or UPS.

He has NOTHING to lose. The person paid as a gift... gifts are nonrefundable as it isn't suppose to be used for buying things. Depending on your morals.. you could keep the phone and the money and he can do nothing. Paypal doesn't accept disputes on gifts.

He has nothing to lose from PAYPAL related to the buyer filing a dispute (due to the gift payment). BUT, dont count on that being the case from the credit card who if the transaction is marked fraud, will do a merchant chargeback to paypal who will then probably get their money from the OP's paypal balance or bank account.

lol if i were you id just go on craigslist and sell it,i sold my 5 yesterday on there for 850.00 verizon i had so many buyers message me for it.

I've been on eBay about 10 years too, and also have 100% feedback. I buy more than I sell but I have sold all of my iPhones, laptops, and electronics over the years on eBay.

No offense to the sellers, but I believe the people selling to you under these scenarios are either naive or borderline foolish. Any discerning seller would never assume that just because of your longevity and feedback percentage that it must be okay to ship to an unverified address.

Kudos to you for getting people to ship to those other addresses, but any seller in their right mind would assume that any eBay account with your history/feedback suddenly asking to ship to an unverified address is simply a hacked eBay account (and in fact that scenario is probably one of the more prolific eBay scams - hack a legitimate account and get the seller to ship a different address).

No you can't. As far as I can tell, eBay quietly removed that feature within the last year or so. It really sucks because that used to be one of my go-to methods.

I'm guessing eBay removed that feature with their recent push to cater to the buyer. From a buyer's perspective, it was probably like the stuck-between-a-rock-and-a-hard-place deal when you're young trying to establish credit. You know, the whole you need credit to get credit, but how can you get credit in the first place if you have no credit thing.

eBay probably wanted to remove all hindrances for first time users. You know, if mom or pop wants to go on and buy an iPad or something, they'd have had a hard time doing so. They'd probably have to buy several piddly items first to build up the feedback score just to be able to get what they really want. And most people probably didnt want to go through that trouble so eBay removed that obstacle entirely.

I can see the reasoning but it does suck for sure from a seller perspective. It always scares me nowadays when I get a high bidder with zero feedback.

But most annoying of all is those who leave no feedback. After my 4S, I'm now up to three high end phone sales where the buyer never left any feedback at all. Argh.
