Well when Apple announced that I couldn't update my 2017 iMac Pro Xeon 3.2 8 core machine to the latest Tahoe OS, I decided to sell it and get a used Mac Studio. The first person who looked at the iMac Pro, bought it and didn't care about updating it. So a used Mac Studio M1 Max with the intelligent keyboard, magic mouse and Studio Display came up for sale in my community for a great price, so I grabbed it. It only has a 512 SSD, but that will work just fine for my desktop publishing business, I have a Samsung T7 Shield 2TB as my primary remote storage and a Samsung T5 1TB for my time machine backup.
I bought the system from a lady who's husband had recently passed and she gave me the complete system for $1200 cash, so it was a no brainer. I restored my apps and settings from my iMac Pro and was up and running in no time. I am very impressed with the M1 Max and I know it's not the latest M4 version, but will work quite nicely for the work I do and my digital photo editing. The new M1 machine had sequoia installed on it which made it nice because my iMac Pro had the same same OS and the time machine restore was a breeze and then I updated the M1 Studio to Tahoe 26.3.
So far, I am liking the new machine and have some upcoming projects that will put it through its paces which I know it will handle any task I throw at it. I really liked my 2017 iMac Pro, but it was finally time to move on.
