I've been toying with the idea of ditching my macbook pro and getting an iMac as my macbook hardly leaves the desk now.
Anyone else done the same since the iPad?

I had a iPad and iMac before... then sold the iMac for the newest MacBook Pro and I regret it every day! My MacBook has been plugged into my desk for months now where as my iPad resides on the living room coffee table and is what i reach for 90% of the time. If I were you id go iMac... i know i'm contemplating selling mine and doing the same again.I've been toying with the idea of ditching my macbook pro and getting an iMac as my macbook hardly leaves the desk now.

It does seem that you've not embraced the attributes that make the iPad so convenient and useful. If you cannot appreciate these aspects (e.g., battery life, portability, etc.), then it is to hard to justify such a device--as you've discovered. I find the iPad to be a wonderful complement to my other computers. However, you've likely made the best decision for yourself. You shouldn't struggle to find a use for a device--especially at the price point of the iPad.

So, OP, are you gonna order the iPad 3 on annoucement day?![]()
I am a proud 27" iMac and iPhone 4S owner. I fell into the iPad 2 hysteria last April and against my better judgement, plopped down $500 for a 16GB model. While it was a very nice device to have, my initial fears of it being a "luxury" device that wasn't really necessary came true.
I always had my iPhone on me (4 and then 4S) and found it very odd to get up, go to my office, stare at two additional devices that I could surf the web on (including the iMac) and then pick up the iPad simply for a larger screen than the iPhone....but essentially the same product. Combine that with the fact that reading text on the iPhone's Retina Display was much easier on the eyes than the iPad which is 3 times the size but only slightly higher in resolution. I decided to sell my iPad while it still had top value given the pending iPad 3 launch. Now I just have a 27" iMac for heavy tasks, and my iPhone 4S everywhere else and am feeling much less overwhelmed with Apple device overkill. Just wanted to share my thoughts.

Same here. I haven't purchased the iPad as I can't think of a use for it. At least not yet that my iPhone and iMac can't provide.
Have fun being stuck in 2007!
Fair enough....I think the iPad is awesome, but just better suited for people that don't already have an iPhone and a Mac. I can live without the "in-between device" iPad....I couldn't live without my iPhone or iMac, so that sealed the decision for me. Also, getting married soon so the extra cash doesn't hurt either.![]()

I enjoy my iPad, but have a lot of admiration for the person who can resist spending money on something he doesn't need just to look cool and "2012".![]()

I will just say, if I kept my iPad in the office I would probably not use it much either. The point of the iPad is it just kind of floats around wherever you need it and it doesn't need to be near a power outlet. In the kitchen for recipes, at the table for news, browsing on the couch, in bed for reading books, in the car for movies, etc. Technically the iPhone (or a laptop) does all these things, but not nearly as well.
This sounds like a recipe for a severely scratched back and an inch thick layer of finger prints on the screen.
Mine was docked upright at my desk and also provided an opportunity for a wipe down with the microfiber cleaning cloth in my desk drawer. Perhaps OCD prevented me from maximizing use of the iPad. Oh well.
