Solution to view external PCs file system in OS X?

Is there ANY way to make file systems of an external non-OSX computer visible in the Finder of my OSX computer? The external computer is a Ubuntu Linux box. I had a system in place to view its file systems in my OS X Finder years ago, however don't remember the solution.

Use SMB sharing or some other protocol from the linux box and mount it in OSX.
