Hello,

I found an old iPhone 3GS at home today, which has been bought in the UK (I live in Denmark) and at the time, it needed to be jailbroken to work here. However, now I wanted to use it with Cydia apps, but I was stupid enough to update the iOS software to 6.1.X (can't remember the exact version). But now the phone is locked in the 'connect to iTunes' screen.

So how do I get my phone back, I want it to be jailbroken still.

I hope there's someone out there who can help me.

Thanks in advance :)

----------

Found out the current iOS version of the iPhone is 5.1.1

Thanks for the reply, but when I go to redsn0w's website I'm told to download evasi0n7 and with the iPhone connected, evasi0n7 doesn't detect the phone (see attached photo). Do you have a specific link I can use?

well part of the problem may be you downloaded evasi0n7 when you are on iOS 6. try the iOS evasion version or I think someone released iOS 6.1.3+ jailbreak a couple weeks ago...

In redsn0w, select a 6.0 ipsw and then hacktivate and jailbreak it

Once tether jailbroken, install p0sixspwn from cydia and you'll have an untethered device

It's probably referring to evasi0n (6.0-6.1.2 jailbreak) and not evasi0n7 (7.0-7.1 beta 3 jailbreak) which isn't hosted on evasi0n.com anymore

I could upload my copy onto Dropbox tomorrow and send you the link but I would recommend redsn0w since it can also hacktivate the phone for you

Thanks for the replies, I have downloaded IPSW 6.0 and redsn0w. But every time I try to use recovery fix or select IPSW and follow the instructions, the phone keeps turning on when it's supposed to stay turned off and I get the attached error message

You don't need to enter dfu mode to select ipsw

Run redsn0w
Extras
Select ipsw
Choose iOS 6.0
Go back
Jailbreak
Check hacktivate and install cydia
Put phone into DFU mode (the screen will be completely black)
The process will run and it should be tether jailbroken afterwards
Install p0sixspwn from cydia and it'll untether the device

If you're getting exploit failed or something, do a clean dfu restore to 6.1.3 and then try again

Ok, so I got the iPhone one step further by getting to the slide to configure screen. However, when I insert my SIM from my iPhone 5S, it says 'The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported.' The phone has worked just fine previously with this operator and I tried to follow a guide on how to bypass the activation screen without SIM, but unfortunately it doesn't work. Any words of advice?

Aha! Got the iPhone jailbroken with redsn0w and it's running now, however I don't see any Cydia app, tried to reboot the phone, but it's still not there...

And when I try to reboot it using redsn0w like it advices me to do, the phone never reboots...

Yes, that's what I was saying. Redsn0w hacktivates your 3GS

Make sure to select the 6.0 ipsw before you use redsn0w's just boot

To untether your device, install p0sixspwn after jailbreaking (I assume you're jailbroken if you need to use redsn0w to boot up your device)
