Yosemite is like an Apple baked Vista. Good job for screwing up so many people who used to love the stability of osx.

I recently purchased a 2015 and am experiencing this lag. My 2014 11" air works lag free, even when hooking up to a 2560x1440 external monitor. So is there a fix for this? Or is it just the nature of the laptop?

lag ?? Nothing here been experienced.

os x is stable.... just try installing it 'clean' instead of upgrading like most tend to do, then worry why its not working..

Apple does not have enough money to afford to do quality control. They only make a few thousand dollars of profit a year. If they did quality control they would go out of business.

Apple has more money than most COUNTRIES. They need to figure out how to make their OS be able to do an "upgrade" without turning to garbage. They need to greatly simplify the system folders and where things are kept, and add an add/remove software type feature that actually works in comprehensive fashion (and is not just a joke). Something that can analyze all your installer receipts and tell you how old things are and if an update is available prior to upgrading. But all they care about is their damn app store and sandboxing everything—while the sandbox malfunctions and permissions bugs are what's responsible for 99% of the problems.

I never mentioned about quality control.... Its people like you who reckon Apple need their heads screwed on tighter, when in actual fact, its a cover up because users don't want to take on the responsibility themselves.

Users don't choose to clean install, because it takes time, gotta back up your data etc...but guess what ?

At the end of it all, I'm not the one here trying prove anything.... :D

I ain't clean installing nuthin. Not my job. Too many passwords and decisions. Makes me nervous. It is Apple's. Maybe all software should clean install on its own, kick out the dirty parts? There are all these office buildings filled with tens of thousands of employees. Put them to work fixing ******.

"Bad drivers". Is it hard to find people who know how to make these things? Is it hard to fix them? If they are bad, why are they there?

I've installed OS X 10.11 El Capitan Beta, and I can confirm that the UI Lag is gone, also the overall OS is way more snappier. So I guess that solves the problem.

The answer is to turn on Reduce Transparency under Accessibility.

After that, I've had no more lag on my rMBP 2012 . . .

That's not the answer, it's a bandaid. I've got a 2013 macbook air and have zero lag and never had in Yosemite. The ANSWER is that Apple needs to write better graphics drivers for certain models

Yosemetie is just badly coded... just try new OSX 10.11 there are almost no lag compared to 10.10

I fixed this problem without clean install or repair.

I've had this kind of issue after upgrading to Yosemite. Fortunately its wasn't a hardware issue, at least not for me. This solution cured it for me :apple:- https://discussions.apple.com/message/24156510#24156510
Rather than link to a long thread and make us have to sift through it to try to figure out what 'solution' you're talking about, why not just copy and paste it here?!?.

Friggin' annoying.

X is Apple's Vista seems to be a common complaint about EVERY SINGLE RELEASE lately. :|
That's because many people don't really know what the issues with Windows Longhorn / Vista were about, so they use the comparison whether appropriate or not. ;)

Anyway, as a 2015 MBP owner I experience a noticeable animation lag on OS X Yosemite compared to my 2013 27-inch iMac where everything was butter smooth. But from what I've heard OS X El Capitan (horrible, horrible name) fixes everything, so I can't be too bothered with it.

Beyond the laggy animations, scrolling has been smooth, battery life great and I experience no instability issues.

2015 MBP 13" - I finally fixed my problem by doing the following from another thread. No need to re-install everything! looks like its just bad caches all around... Follow these steps perfectly... disconnect all usb and external monitors when doing so.. and now my machine is running butter smooth :)

Hi there,

good news here: I just called Apple Support and the guy helped wonderfully!

What you gotta essencially do is: open the finder and then, from the menu bar, click on Go and Computer. In the window that pops up choose the column view and click on Macintosh HD, Library. In this folder you have to move to the trash the content of the following folders:

  • Caches;
  • LaunchAgents;
  • LaunchDaemons;
  • StartupItems.
Before acting the deleting be sure to copy the last three folders on the desktop, in a way to save a copy of their files.

You have to move another element to the trash and it's something called like com.apple.windowserver.plist and you can find this one guy in the Preferences folder (always in the Library one).

Once done, DO NOT EMPTY THE BIN but close the Finder and go on the menu bar again and click on Go; while pressing the Alt/Option button, click on the Library voice (which is hidden and will appear only by pressing Alt). When opened, you have to do something similar to the other time; so

  • Look for Caches folder and move the content to the bin;
  • Look for the Internet Plug-ins folder and do the same;
  • Again for the LaunchAgents folder (you don't need to save a backup of the files this one time);
  • Move on to Preferences and look if the com.apple.windowserver.plist is present. If not, go back to the Library folder;
  • Last, choose the Saved Application State folder and move the content to the bin.

Ok, now again DO NOT EMPTY THE TRASH but restart the computer. You should now have everything working as it was when you got the Mac.

QUICK UPDATE: While the machine has gotten better.. it is not perfect. I am still experiencing UI lag when scrolling pages and switching desktops, launchpad... but much less frequent and less choppy.

Upgrading to OS X El Capitan made all animations buttery smooth again.

Wondering if this is because they actually updated the Driver?

I cant upgrade to El Capitan just yet.. (too much of my life revolves around a working computer)

Thinking I might just be able to take the driver from El Capitan and move it to Yosemite?
