Some beginner advice for Enemy Territory: Quake Wars

What are the advantages of advanced flight controls?

I thought, after a while of flying your flyer drone as being infiltrator, when the status bar around the cross hair finishes, the flyer drone explodes. In this video:

He doesn't have that status bar!

Good question. I assume the gunner--but I don't mind changing seats to deal destruction from my mighty rubber raft 🙂

You're right, that's what the status ring means.

I think demo recordings sometimes don't look quite the same as "real" gameplay--they are missing some details. The youtube vid was probably captured off a demorec.

Nah, his HUD was just off, I got it now. Oh lol, that macrumors thing is old 😛. I created it for two seconds then deleted it😎. I was just fooling.

OMG!!!!

You won't believe it, there is finally an "active" ranked server, its called package.com or something, i was playing, finally got something on my stats, but the server only plays in africa 🙁
 
Woo! awesome game there eh? First time playin against you. Meh, how'd you like being GDF? That hawaii person really kills😱. I had to go at area 22 when strogg had to destroy the slipgate core, but w/e, it was fun playing with you.
 
Good game... but I remain loyal to the Makron 🙂

(Server's down now, but I'll upgrade the bots to be tougher next time. That makes a more fair game when one side has more actual people.)
 
Hey guys! I hope 1.5 comes out soon for you all. I got tired of waiting and installed windows on my iMac. Let's hope Aspyr gets it out soon!
 
Too late. Anyway I had to fight with my local store, they made me favor (they said) by exchanging it. Usually, you can't return a game or get a refund. Good thing I knew the guy well.

We'll be able to play soon I hope. I'm emailing Aspyr almost everyday in hope they would let slip a tiny bit of info, but so far, I haven't been successful!

I just had a game at the salvage, I was strogg, only human on my team, against the GDF with FOUR humans on their team, and damn, I showed them, it wasnt easy, but I won. 😀😀😀

I also did all the objectives.

If I remember rightly, as I've hardly used the basic flight controls, you can only tilt the anansi (and tormentor) so far to the side (or forward/backwards) which means you can't turn as fast or do forward and backward rolls or even numerous other stunts that are necessary for advanced maneuvers for attacking and defending. If you've seen the Dogfights or Wingman tournament matches, you'll find no-one using the basic flight controls. Check out SZAKALOT's flying in this 'Dogfights' promo video (2nd match in). I've played against him one-on-one in Anansis and it was crazy! 🙂

Nice video-reminds me of my all-time favorite, Descent 3. I think I'm going to quease.

FYI - my 1.4 "MacClan.net" server has tougher bots again now, but reduced to 8 (max 12 players).

The last few nights around 11 pm Eastern US time, there have been some bigger matches, 4-on-4 or so. No need for bots 🙂

Some REALLY close matches: last-second defuses on the last objective, etc.

Fun!
 
That does it. I'm customizing my flight controls so that forward/back and up/down movement are the same as when driving or walking, instead of all swapped around!

W = boost
S = reverse
Space = up
C = down
Free aim = Shift maybe? Definitely not Home

I want W to mean forward and space to mean up in ALL contexts. Autoexec.cfg to the rescue!

start with engineer. By far the easiest class b\c you can set up a turret to do all the work for you or just run around and repair everything until you get the hang of it.

The only alteration I made to the controls was to have space as air-brakes (via autoexec config) and also reversed the mouse controls so that the anansi would point up when I moved the mouse forward and it would point to the ground when I pulled the mouse back because I used to crash all the time with the mouse controls as defaulted. 🙂
 
I'll probably swap mouse Y too. I was a die-hard "up = down" fan EVEN for ground pounders, years ago. But my friends would always use the opposite, and I'd sit at their machines and go a little crazy. So I learned the "normal" (non-aircraft-style) aiming and now I'm stuck with it.
 
I've been searching fruitlessly for around 45 minutes now... I can find the PC official release, and the mac 1.5 updater but I can't run the updater because I need the initial file which I CAN"T FIND ANYWWHERE!!!!

Who knows where I can download version 1.0 so I can play?
 
BTW, I updated my tips in the OP, to make the medic guide simpler by hitting 5 instead of F/Use.

The first Mac version (actually 1.4) is sold on DVD, not via download.
