I bought my friend an iPhone last week, hoping to make his life easier and allowing him to drop his home phone and consolidate his whole life into one device.

Well, my best intentions are backfiring a little now, as his number switch from Verizon has been anything but smooth.

He can get text messages from anyone, phone calls from me and my girlfriend (both on iphones) but seemingly not from anyone on a cell phone on any other carrier.

When his business partners and clients try to call him, they get a Verizon disconnected line message. He's spent hours over the last two days talking with AT&T and Verizon and they don't know what is wrong.

It's frustrating to say the least. I was trying to do something nice for a friend, and it's turned into a nightmare.

I was wondering if anyone else had a similar issue when transferring a number from Verizon, and how it might have finally been resolved?

He has a New York City number, and we live in Los Angeles. Not sure if that has any effect, I don't think it should.

    Wow, that sucks.

Silly question.. but did he turn off his old cell phone? I had an issue where my old Verizon cell was intercepting verizon calls from my iPhone until the battery died.

It seemed like there used to be verizon techs that used to lurk on the forums... I wonder if they're still around...

    Thanks MacFlavor.
He's had the battery out of his old phone for at least 4 days now.

Anyone else had a similar experience??
    Or any suggestions??

    Please??

Sounds like verizon has not released control of that cktid (phone number) yet.
They are required to do it quickly but sometimes they stick it to people who switch to at&t and they delay.

    Yea, i work for at&t. :)

In worst case... you might need to go to at&t store and get a replacement sim card.

well it has finally been resolved.

Apparently, At&t had not correctly set a local tower port?? Not that I understand what that means exactly, but from what he says when he spoke with Verizon, they said that "usually numbers that end with XXXX" are exclusively Verizon. The third time he called At&t he relayed that message from Verizon and it triggered something, and they called the "port" department. Long story short, someone at At&t flipped a switch and it was fixed.

Hopefully this might be helpful to someone in the future.

Although I have to say, this is one of the hardest topics to search for, as any search for iphone, verizon, att, transfer issues and missed calls usually results in 100,000 unrelated results.
