I have been reading numerous threads on the ipad, from initial rumors before the apple keynote, to reactions to the device. I have heard certain points repeated like. I have heard the argument that how can you say anything bad about a device that hasn't been released yet. Can't you make the argument, how can you say anything good about a device that hasn't been released yet? What is wrong with discussing your thoughts on a device pros and cons, based on, the apple keynote, videos you have seen of the tablet in use, specs like camera USB etc., and if you own an iPhone or an iPod touch you can partially base your opinions on the ipad from using the iPhone and or iPod touch. There seems to be a double standard between negative and positive threads. Why is it ok to post a thread like "why I love the ipad" but it isn't ok to post a thread like "why I don't like the ipad", I know everyone doesen't think like this but, I seem to see more negative responses to a post or thread that says something bad about the ipad, than the other way around, hope that makes sense. Also when people say something like " your gonna look stupid when the ipad hits big", maybe I will look like a fool when everyone has an ipad, but should that stop me from saying what I like don't like about the ipad? Thoughts ...

You can say what you want about anything, but you also have to allow other people to say what they want about anything even if it does not agree with your point of view. There are two sides to every argument.

I think both sides have pretty much been played out ad nauseum and we should all just shut our traps until it comes out or we get some new info.

It's true that both bad and good thoughts about the iPad are only opinions until it actually comes out, but it's my impression that it's statements that state things as fact (The iPad WILL fail) that brings out reactions like "How can you say that about a product that haven't come out yet." I think positive posts abot the iPad tends to get less of that kind of a reaction because they tend to be phrased as opinions (I THINK the iPad will be the perfect device for me. I BELIEVE the iPad will do well).

Also please consider that some of us posting actually have experience with tablet devices. In particular tablet devices running desktop OSes.

We already know certain things, for instance we already know, like SJ, that people don't actually want Mac OS X Desktop on a tablet whether they realise it or not.

It get's amazingly frustrating to repeatedly hear arguments against the iPad that aren't based on any real experience of the form factor.

That's pretty much how I see it too. I've never seen/heard the word 'fail' overused so much in all my life.

The anti-brigade seem to enjoy padding out their arguments using juvenile terms like iSad, iPhad etc.

The FAIL thing annoys as well.

I have no problem with someone saying that they don't like the iPad. If it wouldn't be a useful addition to a person's life they shouldn't buy it. I do have a problem with people saying that I don't have a use for it, or that I'm drinking the apple kool aid to like it. I'm cool with people not liking the iPad, I'm not cool with the whole you like it so you're brainwashed thing.

I have gotten so tired of people being pessimistic about the Ipad that it gives
me a headache. My eyes have now been trained to ignore those who are still stuck on the same argument. As soon as I read the word Flash or Multitask or Camera, or any number of repeated arguments I immediately ignore the rest of the post and move on to the next. Still though, it seems that people feel that arguing about this unreleased product has been the next best thing to owning it weather its for or against.

A desktop OS on a tablet is yuckeee... That's the official term. I've been there, used that and well the iPhone interface and control structure is the best I have used on a touch serface.

The day that was shut down, and sites like these propelled MORE rumor content into the channels and remained untouched by Apple's attorneys, was they day it should have all made sense. These sites are propped up by Apple, whether it be directly, or indirectly. This site is FESTERING with Apple employees who try to win by campaigning against anyone who dare see the Emperor without his clothes.

Nerds in general derive their self-worth by being in the know about technology, but one of their most coveted experiences in life is carrying a nerd gadget that NO ONE ELSE HAS. Fewer things will give a nerd more sexual stimulation than that one event. With the announcement of the iPad, these nerds can't afford to lose that experience. They can't afford to have the populous think they are only MORE NERD for carrying the iPad.

Fortunately consumers seem to be more intelligent this time around. The nerd will undoubtedly invest in this over sized under innovated block of glass, while the rest will either jump ship to Kindle, or wait out the fallout from this epic fail.

wow, every thread lol thanks again for the comic relief.

These are the best posts on the internet. The raging geek that is trying to act like he's not... but posts in every thread trying to make himself feel better. It never gets better than this.

Guess who posts on tech forums?

People who like the concept of the iPad and will buy one have plenty of reason to discuss the unit in the iPad forum.

I don't know what incentive people who claim they have no interest in the iPad have for constantly posting in these forums? Sometimes it seems like they are almost hoping for the device to fail, or to convince others that they should not buy it.

In the first days some people expressed their disappointment, which is perfectly normal and fine... but what is the point of some folks who feel the need to post how much they hate the iPad in every damn thread?

Forums are built for people with common interests to share their thoughts about common interests. Anyone can post whatever they like but clearly forums get over run with the "haters" for the simple reason they can do what they would not do in real life and they can make themselves feel special, like they are someone.

We can post all the constructive topics we want but they will usually have to come in and say what they think is some profound comment no one has ever seen. We are just trying to discuss the iPad, and how we may use it, or find out what others would use it for etc... They bring nothing to the discussion constructive so typically they are just wasting our time.

    Gotta love the internet.

Please OP, format your original post so that it becomes readable, with paragraphs and breaks for example.

And I agree, the iPad is the biggest failure yet, bigger than the iPod and that phone they tried to sell three years ago.

The iMac doesn't have a floppy drive!
The iPods got rid of FireWire!
The iPhone doesn't have a physical keyboard!
The MacBook air doesn't have an optical drive!
The ipad doesn't have a camera!

    As far as i remember:
1- The ipod took years to succeed, but Apple was a very niche company at the time. Scale matters, you know. It's a bit different introducing a product when you have an user base of one million consumers or when you have a user base that is three hundred millions.
2- When the iphone came out it was since day 1 (presentation) a wild success, and people were getting crazy to get one. Sure it had its defects, but there was a crazy "wow show me that thing" aura around it. Not everyone wanted to buy it, but everyone wanted to at least see it and give it a go. It was magical. At the time, Apple was already a monster mass consumer company.

Now that Apple is even bigger, i see a very, very, very different reaction in the real world about the ipad vs. the iphone reaction. Literally every single friend of mine that is not "in the hype" came to me asking "i'm not sure i get it a big iphone?".

This is not saying the ipad is a failure or whatever, on the contrary i see tons of potential fantastic killer apps that could be made.
But from what it looks today it's gonna be a smaller hit than the iphone, at least in the beginning. Frankly there's not a single person i know that is saying today "ill buy one".

For the sake of discussion here....dont want to convince anyone that this mega-touch is neither fantastic nor failure.

Oh well, probably just the MBA, because it just didn't appeal to many people.
