Some days I feel like ditching Apple

You have highlighted a very important point. The lack of all these things is part of what has been driving me to Android. I too live in a country that Apple does't support, New Zealand. I see little point in paying for functionality I CAN'T USE!!! Apple's approach for people who live outside of the very small number of supported countries sucks big time.

Apple are now going down the same path that Microsoft did. Check out what is working from everyone else, and either steal, buy out, or copy their approaches. The sad thing is that on iOS, they are able to keep a close watch on what productivity apps are being downloaded, copy them, and bully the original developers out of the app store.

The difference here is that the Play store isn't the sole place you can get Android software from. There are other app stores, and you can even buy software outside of app stores entirely. Compare that to iOS, where Apple's app store is pretty well it. Sure you can root your device, but that isn't for the faint of heart.
Personally, I've had content removed. I'm not an App developer; I'm a published author. I couldn't help but notice that ALL my titles were suddenly targeted by Apple and removed for dubious reasons, after I placed a bad review on the Mac App store for El Captain. Apple can be real jerks when they want to be, and they don't like criticism. These days I don't even bother producing any content with them, refuse to recommend either their hardware or software, and I'm on the edge of abandoning the platform for good. The sad thing is, I used to be a fanboy, and have used their products since 2001. We have multiple Macs, iPads, iPhones, an Apple TV, an Airport Express, and I wear an Apple Watch. We also have multiple Windows 10 PCs, tablets and Android devices as well. Tech is my big hobby and I am known as a bit of a technogeek. My preference used to be for the Apple products, but not any more.
Companies change, and I will not buy another Apple product until they produce something worth spending the ridiculous amounts of money they are asking. The alternatives these days are simply too good to ignore, and Apple is too far behind not to notice.

For Apple to sit back and not fully engage may seem to be the best short-term move for Apple, but in the long-term it does the brand a disservice.

We all change, I used to dislike Apple and I found their products(except thei computers) are especially suited for my busy life. Tech isn't my hobby, it's my vocation. I use what's best for me.

We all here have been saying this for years now. The tech world is saying it as well. Some will apologize for Apple when all others seem to come to the same conclusions. We know they have it in them.....they just need the right motivation.

I would say the last quarter result is enough motivation. The iPhone is their #1 revenue source. They cant ignore it like the iPad.
I have to say I was really stunned apple did almost nothing besides split safari in ios10 for the iPad .
I like my iPad but i am starting to look at premium Chromebooks.
Apple needs to use the screen size for efficiently imo.
Chromebooks with android apps I think will be a big player in the next couple years.
Apple has always ignored the iPad
It's still stuck on the old version of TouchID
It adopted the laminated display years after the iPhone
It's still got the chamfered design of the old iPhone
It's nothing more than an oversized iPhone because there is no proper file manager for professional use
It will be years before 3D Touch comes to iPad pro
If you want a real tablet get the Surface Pro 4.You can jailbreak an iPad on a Surface and sync iTunes through it.Now THAT is a Pro tablet

Hate to break it to you but this is garbage. If it were true I wouldn't have to jump through hoops to get Amazon apps and store replaced with Google equivalent on my Amazon Android tablet. There's also Samsung apps and store that people complain about because it's redundant.. Or, the pain to get Google Apps on ARM SBC where people are actually welcoming the rumor that official Android is coming to RPi3. Don't know if EU was paid off by a Google competitor but they're doing a disservice to consumers when they should be investgating Apple instead with no alternatives to Apple app store or even changing default apps.

My point is that Apple has it all under one roof, hardware software and experienced engineering.
Yet they are blowing it.
Apple today is scattered, greedy, and obsessed with chasing Elon Musk to electric car nirvana.

So a single drop in 10 years after record breaking quarter by record breaking quarter and the "sky is falling" (sic: motivation?)
The plans are set for the next year at this point...we'll see.

I don't see anything in the post that you quoted that says "the sky is falling" for Apple. Can you show me where it says that or even implies that in his post?
Or maybe it's time to stop conjuring up this strawman; not everyone who wants Apple to compete more thinks Apple is doomed.
And how convenient that you can use the sales metric to show how well Apple is doing, but others can't use the same metric when it's down to show Apple isn't doing as well.

I don't know an impartial way so measure how Apple is doing, maybe you can provide some guidance.
- do we measure them based on sales and/or company value (which indirectly is based on stock price)
- how posters on MR see them
- how the blog o'sphere sees them
- how tech journalists see them
- market share
- sales of like products
- how their board views the mgmt team
What's the metric or metrics?

We all think they have it in them but tbh they needed the extra motivation. Then really sales discussion has nothing to do with tech or innovation discussions. They really are separate things that all tie in together at the end no doubt...but really have to be separated.
Look at Palm and some of their software and hardware. They were ahead of their time and would rival companies today in technology and innovation. But did not have the sales to match.....but it doesn't take away from their achievements.
You can't always throw sales figures or profit at everything......
There a ton of products and companies that do well financially with their products but are not considered to have the best product available.

I never said the sky is falling but apple should not take it easy because they did good the past 10 years. What happens if next quarter its another drop and another?

Tell me why I should engage in your questions. In the last conversation we had, you did the same thing: I asked you some questions to clarify your inconsistent position, instead of answering you asked me a question which I answered in full (it was something like, what iphone are you using?). And then waited for you to answer my questions. Got nothing. Conversations are two way streets.
So I ask again, show me where the post you quoted says or implies "the sky is falling." Let me help by adding this:
The phrase "The sky is falling!" features prominently in the story, and has passed into the English language as a common idiom indicating a hysterical or mistaken belief that disaster is imminent.
In other words, what hysterics did that poster say that suggests disaster is imminent for Apple?

Always? iOS 9 didn't introduce quite a few iPad-specific features? The Pro line of iPads that have newer and better features than iPhones doesn't exist? As usual, we are "always" going with the unnecessary and incorrect absolutes, extremes, and hyperbole.

Similar sentiments were made when Apple was releasing the iPod and "chasing" the MP3 player industry in the minds of many. The Apple is doomed concept has certainly been playing out extremely well for years and years now.
