Some Mac Mail messages take up to 24 hours to appear

Hello Everyone,

I am using Mac Mail to retrieve my e-mails with an AOL address.

However, sometimes people or companies send me e-mails and I will receive them on my iPhone or Outlook (if I open Outlook that is - I prefer Mac Mail), but they will not appear in Mac Mail. They usually show up in Mac Mail eventually, but this can be up to 24 hours later.

I would guess this happens to about 10% of e-mails and there is no apparent reason why - it isn't only messages with attachments or those from certain senders or at a regular time. It just randomly delays receiving the messages.

This is really quite annoying as I have missed seeing some important e-mails until it is too late.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Something must be wrong with your settings, I see no other reason for this to happen.

I have been through the settings and don't see anything obvious. It worked fine for about the first 12 months but for the last few months has been missing these e-mails. It seems strange that it is fine on Outlook and the iPhone but delayed on Mac Mail.

make sure that you are using IMAP instead of POP3.

Hi, have just checked and everything is using IMAP.

The only setting I don't understand is this one, which is ticked:

Use IDLE command if the server supports it.

Any ideas?
