I wonder if it would be worth apple putting an A4 Chip in there as well as the intel chip. It could possibly save battery life. Only problem is with the processor compatibility, it would be PPC to Intel all over again.

If they put in an A4 there wont be any OS X apps to run. Or let alone anything newer than Leopard o_O

I want an i3 and i5 but retaining the Air's 2.13 GHz C2D and improving upon batter life had been my speculation all along. This is what Apple did to the 13" MBP's recent update. With the success of the iPads, Apple wants this new MBA to be priced competitively. It's all about pushing this to the mass market. I'm hoping we'll finally get 4gb RAM.

If this is the 11.6", I'm curious to see how Apple will spec the 13" if ever we'll see both sizes this morning.

Black power key is interesting. But is it PC?

So many responses.... But ima go with "No, it's a Mac" :D.

I guess if there were a power key on my old MBP here it would be a 'grey power' key hmmm. Can't wait to find out what is actually coming to us, and to either line up to buy or snort derisively.

So this isn't going to be streaming like last time? I got spoiled by the last event, I don't want to go back to reading!! :)

Perfect. CASH is ready... (Thats how we do things in Europe)

What are you talking about? I haven't used cash for almost 5 years now...

No we don't... The rest of europe is not afraid of their government and pays with debit and credit cards. Welcome to the future..

Not even my grandmother would buy a laptop with cash.

I think he means CASH as a liquid asset. Cash also includes the money on your bankaccount ;)

OK OK. My sarcasm obviously too dark... just like your bit about afraid of the government.

Anyways, enjoy the Media Event folks!

First I indeed hated it. It sounded a bit plasticky, a bit "PC"-like. Other keys are black, but they are lined and more important - one hits the power button only once and then forgets about it. But then I started to think, that there has to be some clever thinking behind it, so I will reserve my judgement and take back my hasty claims. (Thus edited message above - sorry about changing opinions as fast as T-shirts.)

I think they mean the eject key will become the power key, on the keyboard, not that they'll add some monstrous black power button :) It makes a lot of sense, because to get the size down to 11.x inches and keep the full size keyboard (which is a given based on what Steve Jobs has said in the past), they need to lose the small margin from the sides. Looks at a MacBook Pro. Now imagine that the laptop sides are flush with the keyboard sides. Now imagine that Eject key has the power symbol on it. That's how it's going to look, IMHO.

I have been waiting for this day for 1 year and a half!!! omgomgomg I can't wait!!!

BUT...I most likely will wait for the black friday sale

Why is everyone getting excited about a bloody notebook with a C2D chip?? Yesteryears tech in a new futuristic body. This would kill it for me. So im not even interested

The MBA is a very niche product and I dont get the anticipation for it, 10 000 people will buy it. What Apple needs is the mini MacPro! A smaller tower with better expansion possibilities than both the mini and iMac. coupled with a 27" id be well happy.

More core 2 duo fun as "feared" by many. I'm a bit on the fence on that decision, if true of course. Maybe we can get a 320M on top of that as graphics, which would be a big improvement over the last version.

If it does sport an i3/i5/i7, we'll almost certainly have to put up with Intel's integrated graphics, which is probably good enough for a MBA anyway.

Will a ULV 2.13Ghz processor perform anywhere near as good as a regular voltage 2.4Ghz processor though? Or will the SSD make up for the performance loss?

Sounds plausible.

You probably won't notice the 10% difference. SSD's make a huge difference though, in everyday use.

Interesting thought though : if the 2.13ghz figure is true, I do think it will be core 2 duo and not i7 : C2D SL9600 is an 18W cpu (expensive though at $316) while i7-640LM is a 25W cpu (costs about the same at $311). There's also an i3-330M @ 2.13ghz which is a lot cheaper, but uses 35W (highly unlikely in an ultraportable enclosure)

11"? I need something bigger than that if I will use keyboard. Otherwise iPad steps in. Kinda competition inside Apple products. Pointless.

Does the iPad run Adobe Acrobat? I don't think so! Case closed!

About ten years ago, a salesperson at the main Mercedes production site in Germany told me that some people were buying new Mercedes' with cash.

The A4 is not PPC is even the older Leopard universals won't run. The A4 uses the ARM architecture.

There is no A4 coming to a Mac, god I hate iToy fanboys, get out of our threads! For once we have a Mac event, can we get through it without hearing constant mentions of iOS this and A4 that.

I'm hoping for a live streaming event like the last one; that was awesome to be "in the loop" as the event was unfolding. Although I think we would have heard by now if Apple was going to stream it. :(
