… Please don't blame the consumer. …

I shouldn't do that. I assume that each customer's case – each person's environment – is different. The exact combination of things that form an environment may have not occurred during beta testing, and so on.

The last few days I'm back to having zero problems with my Wi-Fi. I couldn't have more than 2 or 3 web pages open at a time now I'm connecting to 10 without a problem. My connection was having all the symptoms described in this thread. I just checked and my OS version is still 10.10.

Was there an update that came through without me knowing and that doesn't show up in the OS version? Anyone else notice their Wi-Fi problems have suddenly cleared up?

Weird

Still problem free with Wi-Fi, and still weird.

It's like it never happened. Still showing 10.10 and haven't made any changes. It was so crappy at one point I was contemplating rolling back to Mavericks.

Nobody else with similar experience?

I did the following "walk around" to solve it. Seems stable for now:

- delete the network you at trying to log into fr the network manager.
- go into keychain and make sure it's deleted there too.
- restart
- add network back
- go to keychain and click on your network entry. There you can set it to allow everything to access your network. I tried that but didn't work. What *did work* was adding the apps I needed one by one to the list

I'm not a network expert so this could be a bunch of BS on my part but I know many internet services occasionally send customers a new IP address and reestablish connections. Refreshing your connection may have been all you needed to solidify your service. That's why fully restarting or resetting the modem often works. I know months ago when I got the phone service from Comcast we couldn't get internet to work until I shoved a pin into the reset on the new modem to completely reset it to my service, even though it was new to begin with. Internet is maddening that way. Add something new to the system and things can get goofed up for a while until everything resets. For me, upgrading to Yosemite didn't hurt. For others, it triggered a problem.

----------

I had not trouble at all until I upgraded to Yosemite. I have 4 other computers in the house, 2 ipads, 2 phones. They all still work! Please don't blame the consumer. One of the reasons that we buy these products is that they are easy to use! :(

Who's blaming the consumer? Why is it "blaming the consumer" when you point out things they can do on their end to fix their problems? Frankly, I'm sick of people not wanting to hear that they may be part of a problem and what they can do to stop it. Is this from mommy and daddy telling their kids nothing they do is wrong?

So in reading through this thread some more, is it a consensus that this issue is contained to MBP, MacBook Air and rMBP?

Are the iMacs not be affected?

There are so many wifi issues going on.... frankly this whole saga made put a very bad taste in my mouth over anything apple.

The issue I am having, and that is repeated by many users all over apple forum, is that WAN activity stops, but lan activity is ok, when using wifi.

For example I can access my router and stream videos on my LAN, but safari and most other apps get hung up randomly. IT seems to happen when trying to resolve DNS names. Yet changing DNS server has no effect at all.

I have tried everything included a completely fresh install, resetting PRAM, CMW etc. Nothing listed in any of the articles or on apples site fixes it.

The literally only way to fix this crap is to downgrade to mavericks.

Meanwhile apple have their head in the sand and seem to be content with ignoring that any problem even exists.

Have you tried pinging the WAN router? Doing so fixes the problem for me without a installing mavericks.

My 5K iMac and 2012 Mac mini (upgraded to Yosemite, whoops...), are both still having issues with wifi disconnects from my 2013 Time Capsule. Very irritating. Even tried the latest 10.10.2 betas and no improvement.

I updated to 10.10.2 and turned off hellaWifi, only to turn it back on a little while later as wifi disconnects were still occuring.

Just to reiterate, pinging the router keeps my wifi from disconnecting and I have automated the process with hellaWifi: (http://github.com/hellabyte/hellaWifi).

I am affected, and have tried pretty much everything. The much-hyped WiFried sudo command solution also doesn't work for me. My connection drops all the time (only on the Yosemite "upgraded" Mac - not on iPhone, iPad or even a ten years old PC running XP:)

Frustrating. Not like Apple.

I'm affected by this issue too.

Got a brand new iMac running Mavericks, which worked great for 2 months +.

Upgraded it to Yosemite and the problems began. Sporadically the wireless connection will drop out whilst other devices in the house work fine (including a MacBook Pro on Snow Leopard - ahh the days when they used to get this stuff right). To reconnect, I need to click the wireless symbol and select the network.

I've tried the following:

  • Remove all other saved wireless networks
  • Require admin authorisation to change wireless networks
  • Allow all apps in keychain access

I will not disable bluetooth as it is required for the mouse and keyboard.

Is Apple planning on releasing a fix for this soon? If not, I will be making a complaint.

Ive not had wifi issues, and my wifi range has improved on iOS8 with my 5S, and now 6 Plus. My rMBP usually connects to the internet at the end of its 12 second starup, alhough lately Ive notices it takes longer now. But in essence I have not had any issues yet. But, it is very clear Apple has ongoing issues with wifi, how can this be??? Wifi is old tech, its standard tech. A network guru I know, tells people to get another phone. not an iPhone, as 9 out of 10 wifi issues he resolves are Apple. I really like Apple gear but a basic issue such as wifi, you have to ask yourself how can this be. Whether its poor hardware design, poor software running the wifi, or what, its extremely poor. He also says only use Apple routers if you have Apple gear, although I am sure there are some in this thread using one and having issues?

Wifi Issues

I have a MBP Mid 2014

only had it a few months and no wifi drops majorly at home or at work.

hope this helps

im currently on 10.10.2 beta 4

i had beta 3 and 10.10.1 and 10.10 before that and its been fine throughout

----------

Have any of you updated? There's a wifi fix out already.

i have updated and it works just as it did before no problems.

i havent had any other os before like mavricks or lion etc

just yosmite

might be worth a clean install might help

Wifi fix with Verizon router

I’m not sure how helpful this will be or if this has been covered by others, but after spending way too much time trying to get a brand new (as of 4 Jan 15) MBP 13” Retina to connect to our home wifi, I want to share in as many places as possible what worked for me.

Our home network is a Verizon FiOS setup, with the MI424WR router in its “stock” configuration. This means WEP security (why is that the default?). I kept meaning to change it, but the trouble was just a bit too much to deal with until this came along.

Quick note: I checked the MBP wifi connectivity on my work network and it was perfect. Immediate connection, no drops. We use an AirPort Extreme with WPA2 security there…

My fix was simply to access the router and update to WPA security. Connected immediately and it’s been rock-solid and stable. Bonus for us is our older iMac (7,1 running 10.9.5) was having intermittent wifi issues, but is now also much more stable.

Hope this helps someone else!

Appreciate this may be a workaround, but surely we shouldn't accept the penalty of reduced security just to make wifi work?

I might just roll back to Mavericks...

Reduced security? Huh?!

He was saying he had to disable WEP and go to WPA security to get it working reliably. That's an INCREASE in security!

WEP protocol should really be removed from all devices in firmware updates and banished.... It's inferior in several ways. An Apple device not working well with WEP is practically a non-issue these days.

My wifi grief is pretty simple, I wake the computer from sleep and for no reason wifi will be turned off. I turn it back on again and all is good. Just annoying.

Apologies I misread what he wrote. I'm already on WPA2.

Rolled back to Mavericks and it's been stable for a week - life is good again. Next machine will be Windows if you don't sort this out Apple!

The way that Apple integrated Thunderbolt technology was ridiculous, because it interferes with the wifi adapter. Simply click your wifi icon in the upper-right of the screen. Go down to and select "open network preferences." Then click on the Thunderbolt option. Turn off all options for Thunderbolt. Then remove Thunderbolt as an option. You should get a message pop-up which tells you that Thunderbolt is using your connection or adapter. Just remove it anyway. Once Thunderbolt has been removed, click "apply" and then close it out. Your wifi adapter will not have any more issue staying connected...at least it shouldn't.

If you are utilizing Thunderbolt, then I don't have a solution for you. But if you are NOT using Thunderbolt, then simply remove it. Happy always-on connecting.
