Been eyeing a Mac Mini for my office lately, so I've been keeping tabs on stock of it at various places. The Apple refurb store has been flush with Mini stock lately, in stock pretty much non-stop since late last week. Generally they have low stock on the Mini model and it often goes pretty quick. Seems like they might be trying to clear out a backlog at this point.

Also, I just now noticed that the base model is back ordered with B&H (link), with an expected availability of October 2013. (EDIT: GUESS I WAS WRONG. SEEMS TO BE BACK IN STOCK NOW)

Nothing concrete for sure, but definitely some circumstantial stuff that points towards a refresh and a heads up towards anyone possibly considering purchasing one in the next couple of weeks. Might be prudent at this point to wait it out until the 22nd.

Maybe. There are already threads on stuff like this. Also the recent price rise suggests that an update might not be imminent. Apple doesn't normally increase the price shortly before refreshing a product. Apple normally waits for the product to be refreshed before putting up prices to reflect currency changes etc.

With as many "I think they're coming" moments as we've seen the last few months, for me the sign is going to be Apple saying "hey, we've got new Minis!"

APPLE's products follow the "marriage" pattern....

    which one?

    1. Eager for the "new" -especially if this is the first time- (before marriage)
    2. Happiness of the moment (on marriage)
    3. Expectation for something "new" to come across -and replace the older model- (after marriage)

please, correct me if I am wrong... :D:cool:

Certainly has been in Australia. Spoiled for choice of Minis. Eight different models there right now (a mix of 2011 & 2012 models).

Interestingly, the refurbs don't seem to have had the price bump that the new ones had a couple of weeks back, which makes the current refurb discount and value even greater. I bought a refurb Mini (2.3GHz quad i7, non-server model) about a month back, just before the price bump, and the same model is still the same refurb price I paid.

Probably never been a better time to buy a refurb Mini, (though they may be even cheaper soon, if the 2013 Mini upgrade is on its way).

Just wondering what the link is between supply and demand in the refurb market and Apple's position or decision to release the new mini?

Interesting, normally nil here in New Zealand in the refurb shop but now there are 9. The most I've seen in the past was 3.

Hmmmm... what to make of this.

edit.... hang on, my Mac mini was supplied from Sydney so it is the same refurb shop as OZ....

The refurb store carries mostly referb Macs, but is also a vehicle to clear old stock just before refreshes. Officially Apple doesn't really discount models, so this is their sneaky way of having a 'sale'.

I guess that's why I'm using a 5 year old iMac and have been married to the same girl for 24 years... Looks like I made good choices both times!
