The GPU even the HD 3000 is more than capable to power pretty much any resolution. That really is no limitation like someone posted.

For things that are not using the GPU (bare OSX, web browsing, coding etc) then I have no doubt the HD3000 could output 1440*900, however I'm guessing that as the HD3000 performs worse than the 320m at 1280*800 for GPU intensive stuff (games) then at 1440*900 the gap would become even greater and would highlight further what a poor GPU we've been given in this MBP iteration.

I have been reading too many people here saying that portability is an issue with the 15", but the 13" is just right, I think that's sort of silly. If you can carry a 13" all day, you can carry a 15" all day. So what if it's a tiny bit heavier. Unless everybody here has 6% body fat, you are carrying around a lot more weight than the difference between the 13" and 15".:D (Don't take that to serious now.)
With that out of the way, I do not think the 13" to be to small however. It does seem absurd that the 13" does not have a 1440x900 res, down right ridiculous as a matter of fact. I think it's Apples way of sort of forcing you into the 15".
I think that in retrospect, a lot of 2011 13" owners will be pining that they didn't just get the 15" for crisper display. All I can say is, if you haven't actually looked at the difference in quality between the 13", and the 15" first hand, and you already have a 13". Don't look at the 15" high res. It will make you feel bad.

I would pick screen res over a pound any day of the week.

Late 2011, new MBP 13" with 1440x900.

Thing is, the Air will end up costing me more for a worse machine :(
Maybe now you understand how Apple operates a little. There are dilemmas for choosing any product, and Apple maintains value for each device in their selection through these carefully picked feature lists and feature exclusions.

I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying that's what they do.

Yes! They are genius at it. They are putting users exactly where they want them at the moment. Including myself. I will be giving in and picking up a 15" high res model come Monday. It's too late for me.:D

I see you are being given a hard time by the fanbois on this forum saying pay more.

Dont let that put you off, you are not the only one who wants MBA resolution in MBP. Clearly it can be done at that size and there is no excuse not to have it has a BTO i agree completely.

For those who want a high res portable machine, we should NOT be made to buy a laptop bigger than what we want just for a better screen (i know cpu and gpu are better as well). Welcome to the apple way of making money.
