I'm not sure if you've heard the news that JMicron controller is the culprit. Well, besides Intel and Samsung and only recently released Corsair SSD's, pretty much all other SSD's in the market use the craptacular JMicron controller. OCZ's Vertex is known to have ditched JMicron but is yet to be released.

Its my understanding, as well, that Samsung SSDs have a MTBF of 100 years and that their proprietary controllers are not prone to stuttering or Boot Failure as JMicron's are.

Hi everybody,

is anybody else also tempted to already upgrade his/her MacBook (Pro) from HDD to SSD because of the incredible speed increase? I really think that the effect of e.g. opening applications so much quicker is simply wow, but I have to say to myself all the time: SSD is still too expensive and will get MUCH cheaper in VERY short time ... This is a real hard fight, believe me ...

I remember reading an article last month (can't remember the publication) that said SSD drive prices will start to come down over the next year or so. The technology and supply will be expanded, thus driving the price lower. If you an wait a little, you may be able to invest in one at a much lower price than now.. typical of computer technology.

i was having the same issue of needing someone to stop me from buying the SSD. my wife helped with that. i was on the put in the credit card information screen. i grabbed my wallet, pulled out my card, and my wife said what are you buying? i said ssd for the mac. she said what is it? i told her

she said no

i am allowed to buy it, but only when our tax refund comes in. i am hoping the 256gb samsung is out by then.

Women just don't understand.

I do not think that you should expect any mind-blowing performance increase.

Current generation of file systems still can't take advantage of SSD.

There are noticeable performance gains, but I ordered SSD solely to have cooler notebook.

I broke down and goth the Samsung 256GB SSD. I love it. And to add more hard drive space I removed the Superdrive and put a seagate 500GB in its place :D

Depending on what you use your laptop for the speed is mind blowing. For me it's mind blowing because I have a hug iPhoto database (20GB) that opens up in less than a second and Photoshop is super fast. Now if your just browsing the web it won't be mind blowing but still noticeable faster.
