I bought one from Aliexpress for this precise reason. The location is the same but the magnets push the iPad back. If you force it it will work, but it's almost impossible to keep it stable. With the coverbuddy, the thicker iPad pro will tend to want to stick out unless I stick my hand against it, so it's unusable. I could make a video to show you.
I also have the Goodjoq for the M4, works well and for the $50 bucks I spent it's amazing. But I ended up getting the real MK when I found it for $170, the charging port makes all the difference (the MK is plugged in all the time so the iPad is always charged at 80%).

That's awesome that you tried it!

To confirm, did you mean that the M1/M2 iPad Pro is too thick for the M4 Coverbuddy? The case pushes the iPad out? I wonder if cutting one side with a Dremel tool would create the extra space?

Edit: Were you trying to use the older Magic Keyboard with the new M4 iPad Pro? If so, then we are trying to accomplish the opposite goal of one another. I'm trying to use the new M4 Magic Keyboard with my older M2 iPad Pro. I don't mind paying the higher price of the new Magic keyboard design but Apple changed the magnets. That's why I bought the Coverbuddy.

I was trying to use the new M4 MK with my M1 iPad pro.
I tried again and I think the connector placement is slightly misaligned (by 1mm or less) compared to the M1 coverbuddy (I have the pitaka for that).
So the only time I really manage to connect the M4 keyboard with the M1 is by forcing it on directly without the coverbuddy but then I am fighting against the magnets...
