Not possible in the AppStore. Either way you'd end up with image quality loss. I don't know why you would want this.

No, that's defective hardware.

IMO the iPhone's screen is gorgeous. I love it. Very few of my gadgets can compare. And the brightness is what I care about changing, which it lets me do.

If you're having a negative black issue then you probably have one of the first iphone 3g's that came out... take it back and exchange it for a newer one and the screen will be better. I did, and it's much better.
