Why should we talk you out of it? It's your money do what you want with it. You've done 8 years what's another 12? Would be nice to have a fat retirement at what I assume is a young age? Just a thought. Thanks for your service.

That is very rude to say to someone who puts there life on the line every day to serve our country (While I am Canadian so continent) OP thanks for serving our nation.
Get the phone. You have the money and want it. Honeslty you could probably resell it and get most of your money back. Especailly if it is factory unlocked. Now the only decision is black or white. I would also get an otter box but that is just me.

Just don't drop the phone unless you have it protected in a tough case. Nice compact design be nice. You can tape that phone to helmet and record the action. Hell make a documentary film and make $$$$ when you get home.

I too am up for an upgrade in may and I am here so I can upgrade now I almost did it when my 16 yr old went stop mom ur going to use an upgrade and kick ur self when iPhone 5 comes out next year. Save ur money and buy ur self something really nice as. Welcome home gift in march. Stay safe and come home soon

I am going to be honest

First, thank you for your service. I would not recommend getting the 4s. When it came out, I thought about upgrading from the 4 to the 4s but I knew that I would be really kicking myself in the butt if I got it and the iPhone 5 came out next October. $749 or $849 for a phone, just can't bring myself to do that.

I am very much a gadget freak like you and would love to have the latest and greatest iPhone, but I really want the redesigned iPhone 5 which was the last SJ influenced product. If you wait and get the 5, I guarantee that you'll will be glad you did. Besides the 4 shoots some darn nice video. That's just my two cents. Stay low and be safe

I figured I'd revisit this thread. I made it home safely for those of you who haven't seen me post in other places on the forum. I was able to record some things with the phone, but the majority of the time, my Contour was the primary camera. And I actually only came back with about 35 minutes of iPhone footage for that reason. Putting all the footage together the way I want has become quite the daunting task I'm finding out. I made a short 3 minute music montage during my leave back in October last year, but now I want to incorporate voice overs and record more "interview" style speaking parts. I hope I'm able to finish it eventually. Thank you all again for your support.
