So the past day or so I've noticed something has been eating up my harddrive. One hour I'll have 342 gigs and then in 30 mins I'll be down to 340 without having downloading anything to the harddrive. The computer has been pen for 3 days straight so maybe if I give it a rest it will fix the issue? Anyone have any imput on this matter?

It could be temporary files, like RAM swapping to the HDD or caches of whatever applications you use.
See, if a restart fixes it.
    If not:
Take a look at DiskInventory X (will not work in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion), OmniDiskSweeper, JDisk Report or GrandPerspective to see where your HDD space went to.
