I noticed especially when the screen is wide open and I tilt my MBP sideways 90 degrees from flat that something loose makes a slight noise like as if it was rolling from side to side. It appears to come from the hinge area and you can also hear it if you hold the laptop flat with screen closed and shake it sideways continuously for a few seconds. I'm just curious if this is just a design feature or something that is actually loose in side?
It would also be interesting to hear from those that have the tb version and maybe the 15".

TIA

There is a long thread about this in the new MBPs, and some shorter ones. Might be back a couple days.

It's the display matrix inside of the display itself that hasn't been glued correctly and is moving around. This issue was present very rarely with the 2015 models but seems to be more common with the 2016. Still, it's a defect, and you should return/replace it. Both of my two 2016 models don't have this.

Yes there's a lot of threads on this. As @appleincognito mentioned it's the display matrix. It doesn't affect the machine in any way but if it bothers you, you can get it replaced.

I'm on my 2nd as had a few scratches. I will note my first had this issue, 2nd doesn't. But if you 'shake' it, it does have a slight rattle. Please don't shake your laptop, please don't be that guy in the Apple store shaking all the laptops and proclaiming that laptops shouldn't rattle when you shake them, you will most likely get strange looks.

Have you actually tried one that has the rattling issue? I get the impression that it is a more widespread problem than people think but you have to factor in those that just ignore it because they are not even aware of it probably because it is so subtle to start with. I also had an early 2016 13" MBP with the rattling, I had the entire display swapped for a brand new one at the Apple Store but even that had the rattling issue. If it is such a rare issue it doesn't seem likely that I should have experienced it on 3 different screens ! Or that I am extremely unlucky but then I should also be occasionally winning the lottery.

My 2015 had this issue, it sounds like something is thunking from side to side when you shake it left to right. A display replacement fixed it, and neither of my two 2016 MacBook pros have the issue. I think you just got real unlucky.
