Cool. Those of you who buy it let those of us who are curious know how the controls work/feel. Just interested to know.

If I had to guess; the original Sonic games used a D pad and only one button. So I'd say the click wheel functions as a directional pad and the middle button jumps.

That's....ya know..illegal and all.

If you own a copy of the game cartridge, and dump the ROMs yourself, it's probably not illegal. If you own the cartridge and download a copy, it's questionable. If you do not own the cartridge and download a copy, it's clearly infringement.

This is a great port, the first Sonic the Hedgehog game from 1991. The iPod's native resolution is the same as the Sega Genesis, so the game looks fantastic.

I bought the game and I have a little video of it too that I'll upload shortly. The control scheme is actually pretty good. There is a one-handed mode and a two handed mode.

The game only lags when loading a level or when you get the invincibility power up (which pauses for a second to play the music.) I'll link you guys to some images and media in a little bit. Thankfully this isn't a horrible port like the GameBoy Advance version. :D

NES emulator, for Sonic? Haha... ah boy. :p Try the Sega Genesis. ;)

This is so worth £3.99.

Sorry about the terrible picture, but the iSight isn't the best camera in the world. ;)

any videos

Ok here's a short QuickTime video of a run through the first level. I cut out the audio since it was nothing but my fingers pushing buttons. It was sort of hard to hold the camera and play at the same time but, you get the idea. Next I'll post a short video of the menu system and such. :) :D

BTW the music sounds great, crisp and clear. Although I noticed when you get a speed-up item it doesn't speed up the music. Also in the beginning it runs a tutorial, I skipped that for the video though.

It's like asking if Zelda runs on a TurboGrafix-16 emulator.

Blasphemy!

:p

A what XD Sorry, my first proper console was a Playstation:eek: I'm still young (like almost 18).

EDIT: I guess my noobness analogy could be compared to trying to run Gears on a PS1?

Don't worry, the only reason we're upset is because you make us feel old!

Thanks, that looked great!

So am I the only one who - even without any audio - could hear every single sound effect and the background theme in the back of my head??

;)

Disappointed

I can't remember the last time I was actually disappointed in Apple but I am now. Where are all the Mac games? Apple is putting a lot of emphasis on the iPod games but as usual they never put enough towards the Mac. :(

Can we expect to start getting games for the iPod Touch once the SDK is released? Is that the only reason why it seems to be excluded right now?

Though, It's moot thing for me because I'm waiting until the touch is updated with at least 32GB capacity before I get one. Now, if I get an iPod Classic under the tree this year, I am so downloading Sonic. :)

I personally think this shows further evidence that Apple doesn't give a d*mn about gaming and that the stories of Gabe Newell and John Carmack are true.

Fortunately, no one's forcing you to download them :^)

Yes, I guess it is fortunate no one is forcing me to download them. Or songs illegally. Or forcing me to shoplift a snickers bar. That's makes them not nearly as bad when someone just chooses to do it . . . .

Heck, it might not even be illegal if no one is forcing me to do it

Sonic was a fun game. One of the few Sega games that I played at my friend's house. We could never own two consoles and always had Nintendo.
