Sonoma is crazy fast...

Thats interesting. I just did one now before the update. Then I'll do the update and see if it's faster or slower. From people post here it seems faster after the update.
 
That’s great about this benchmark, but what about real world perfomance?

Benchmarks doesn’t matter, how about speed and smoothness of UI in the system overall, scrolling and animations?

I saw some messages from other topics, that Sonoma more laggy in terms of smoothness.

an OS update is no substitution for a processor update, it can't perform magic (and you're already on an M3 👍)

OS updates may bring marginal speed increases, but mostly should be about bug fixes, leaner code, better functionality, new options.

Oh yeah no complaints here. 😀 It was already freaking fast coming from an iMac Late 2013. I ran this test on Firefox latest update and its 550 mark with that browser.

Firefox is "of course" always slower than the latest Safari version in this benchmark, and usually slower than Chrome.
 
Since the release date of the M1, M2 and M3 chips, here's what the speedometer 2.1 scores started at and what they are now... Running on Sonoma 14.4

M1 started at 220 and now at 500
M2 started at 520 and now at 590
M3 started at 600 and now at 700 (In just 4 months)

The latest Speedometer 3.0 on M3 Max running 14.4 and Safari 17.4

Its going to take time to get use to these double digit scores ..

Anyone else noticed speedometer 2.1 is producing lower scores over the last day or two?

I was getting between 690 and 700 every time on the M3 Max, now it's around 665. Maybe it has to do with the release of speedometer 3.0
 
Anyone using 14.5 Beta 1? Curious to see if Sonoma got any faster on a speedometer 3.0 run, without any content blockers. My M3 Max gets around 37.5 - 38.2

Tip: the second run is usually faster.

Thinking of updating from Ventura to Sonoma. How much is optimized for Arm Mac than Ventura? Will I notice a speed bumb or not?
