This would actually be interesting and useful, so of course New Sonos(tm) killed it off so they could work on yet another tired pair of headphones, when there are already billions of headphones out there. Same deal with the stupid portable speaker.
I’d have bought it…eventually. I love my Sonos arc and my era 100. I want to get a complete Sonos setup someday including ace headphones. It’s a good idea overall because small speakers can’t hold a candle to bigger ones but I’m sure battery life was the defining flaw that got it shelved. Too bad.
As for their app, while I was disappointed when they launched the redesign it’s not world ending like some people act like it is. I’m glad they’re fixing it but at the same time I wish they had kept releasing hardware rather than pausing releases in favor of app development.
Interesting idea, but the right decision to kill it. I can't see anything like that not being defined by its limitations. My only surprise (not really, given Sonos' leadership) is that the idea made it any further than an email.
a company can have different departments working on different things. the people doing hardware R&D are not going to be the same as the app developers.
apple needing to make major fixes to iOS isn't going to stop them working on prototypes in the pipeline...because people within a company fulfill different roles with completely different skillsets
One less product for people to pollute the world with noise from their phones. Just get a pair of headphones and spare the rest of us from listening to your conversations and or horrible music choices.
MagSafe has its uses for battery pack, wallet, ergo holder, tripod arm adapter. Speaker isn't one of them because it's not going to be much larger than your phone, hence not enough of an improvement.
