They've described it to me exactly like that -- essentially Playbar and Sub combined!

The sub is an option for $699. I have the Playbar and the base is quite good in my environment. Imagine this unit will be similar if not a bit better on the base, with the option to kick the base up a great deal by adding the sub. Want surround sound, need to add a couple of wireless speakers and a sub for full 5 channel sound.

There is zero chance of that being a possibility. A Playbar with additional bass, perhaps, but no chance it even approaches the sub.
